Forums - General - Left hand path or right hand path?

I'm big enough to be on both paths at the same time. I'm able to balance.

Uhhh middle path? Those two seem to be quite the extreme tips of each to me.

I'm all for individuality, and against conformity. I therefore choose the left path, just like everybody else. Because I'm an individual. Just like everybody else.

Seriously, though... I'll forge my own path, thank you very much.

I don't get this.

Both sides can conflict with the ideals you put forward. What if self improvement does away with partaking in retarded sex/drugs/pleasure? What if you conform to your peers, and they partake in really stupid activities?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I suspect that the question has more to do with hedonism versus asceticism, and that the OP established such a dichotomy because he fancies himself a non-comformist.

I am right handed so I use my right hand most of the time.

Using my left hand would feel like I am cheating on my right hand since it feels totally different.
That probably is a good thing, but it still is cheating.

Wait... what was the question again?

Right hand path without denial of pleasure, fun, etc.

That's an oversimplification of both hands, and when you word it like that, almost everybody will say left, because conformity sounds bad and denial of pleasure sounds bad. You kinda left out that the left hand path is supposed to imply SATAN and the right hand path is supposed to imply JESUS. You either follow Jesus or yourself, and when you follow yourself, you do Satan's work.

I'm on the left.

I love how neither of these relate to the Buddhist concept of the Middle Path.  Thinking of all 3 at once is hilarious, and makes it sound like Buddha is the referee between Jesus and Satan, or he's the Catwoman between Batman and the Joker.

Confucius says:

"If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself."

Buddha says:

"In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then believe them to be true."
