Forums - Gaming - Why the NES can be considered as the best gaming console ever!

"he NES put on the map most of the major 3rd party publishers of the present day. Among them are Capcom, Konami, Hudson Soft, Koei, Tecmo, Rare, Bandai"

Rare?...in the NES era?

Your first argument is the only one that can't be said about another console.

PS2 hosted many great series like Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter etc.

PS2 has sold around 130-140 million and still growing (more than double the NES).

PS2 has helped make many publishers/developers rich as hell. I'm guessing it made Rockstar, Square Enix, EA, Konami, Namco, etc. very rich

I don't really know about its graphics but I'm sure they got better?

Of course Rare contributed to classics like R.C. Pro AM and Battletoads.

So far NES is the 1st best selling nintendo console of all time not including handhelds but give another 4 months, the wii will supprass NES sales which was 61 million. But nevertheless I love playing NES games on the VC

Yup Battletoads was a Rare game they also had an Ultra title. In fact they were working on a Ground Breaking game for the SNES called Goldeneye before they pushed it to the N64.

Square also made Rad Racer....for you guys that rememebr that game.

- Many of the most well clamied and commercially successful franchises were born on NES. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Megaman, Ninja Gaiden, Double Dragon, Bomberman, TMNT and Contra wouldn't exist if wasn't the NES. Yeah, some of then are no longer commercially strong franchises, but the companies who did them own them the status they got now.

- NES saved the gaming industry from collapse after the 83 crash. If it wasn't the NES, there would be no Sony, no Microsoft, no Sega on the game.

- Many of today's most recognized third-parties rose to success thanks for the NES. Capcom, Square, Enix, Acclaim, Hudson, Konami, Rare, Tecmo, Bandai and Namco should all build statues of the NES on their HQs because the reason they got big was because of the NES.

- Many of PS2 gamers started playing games on the NES generation.

So, please don't make comparisions like these anymore.

I agree PS2 hosted many great series but the point here is that it havent come close to the numbers of classic franchises the NES introduced who can be counted by dozens.

PS2 is at 124.5 millions unit sold (as per VGC) but again the market increased a lot in the last two decades so it was impossible to reach that kind of numbers back in the early 90's.

Square-Enix, EA, Konami and Namco were all established company in the time of PS2.

Finally the difference between graphics of its earliest games vs latest games is not too big. Well it didnt touch 3 generations like the NES did.

What??? I hope you were joking. Metal Gear was very popular back in the late 80's. As for FF, didnt you ever heard about FF4 and FF6???

You're saying that certainly because you weren't playing back in the day. I agree on your MGS comments, it was indeed a underground game that time, but FF was very well known for the gamers. FFII and FFIII for the SNES were acclaimed and had sold considerably, not on FFVII level, but it wasn'n unpopular.
