Today Sega presented it's upcoming flagship titles to the public in Japan. Executive Officer of SEGA Japan, Kawagoe Takayuki, said that "overall it [2008] was a difficult year [for Sega]" and that they were definitely affected by the global economic recession.

However he also mentioned that Sega were encouraged by the sales of PlayStation 3 exclusive, Yakuza 3, and PSP exclusive, Phantasy Star Portable. Both of which achieved half a million units in Japan alone.

Takayuki went on to say that "due to the success of these titles, Sega wish to bring excitement to gamers with more quality titles." He then went on to announce Bayonetta and End Of Eternity for PS3 and Xbox 360 and Puyo Puyo 7 for the DS (releasing July 30), Wii and PSP (releasing Winter 2009).

Why the hell not!  Does anyone else find the way Sega places their exclusives a little random?  Would you like an EA blanket effect better?

Nice try, but who would be so silly as to try to prove your opinion as being wrong on this :)

The architecture of the 360 and PS3 have been regarded as "very different" by many devs already. It's common knowledge that it's not simple or cheap to port titles inbetween the PS3/360. Anyways, that's beside the point, I was simply pointing out that Yakuza 3 sold 500,000 on ONE hd platform, not more.

As for your theory... I don't quite get it. Are you trying to say that Wii owners (aswell as devs) would spend their resources on low end ports of "HD" platform games for profit rather than make very profitable unique titles such as No More Heros and Madworld?

I don't think it's as clean cut as you believe sir, there's just too many variables. But on the other hand, if you're trying to say that Wii games are cheaper to develop and require less sales to profit than HD consoles, then I do agree with you.

I agree with much of what you wrote except it can be argued as to how "profitable" unique titles such as No More Heroes and Madworld are.

That madworld and NMH comment was meant to be sarcastic to boost my point that you can't assume how much a game could sell, be it an original title or crap port.

That's really good!

Good sales for a good game!

Why not buy a PS3, that works too ya know...

For 3 games? Maybe when its $150 cheaper.

i wonder if an announcement regarding Yakuza coming to the US will be made at E3. if they plan on bringing it over it would be a decent way to show it off and try and milk some sales it might not receive otherwise.

Well if that's the case, it would be a waste. Why buy a console and ignore it's library?

Thats what i'm saying. There are only 3 games on the PS3 i want, and if Sega made Yakuza 3 and VC go multiplat. there would only be one other game on the PS3 i would want to play. I have no intrest to play sony first party games, so the PS3 is useless to me.

The other game is MGS4 BTW.
