Well they would know. If anyone has written more checks for games it was Sony during the PS1 era.

What titles did they pay for?  I'm not too familiar with Sony's shenanigans during that generation.

i think final fantasy Vii is one....

I thought they got that one because the cost of spreading FF7 on an equivalent number of cartridges was obscene.

Nope.  That's why it wasn't on the N64.  Yet Sony got publishing rights, and excluisve rights to Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics and two other games i can't remember the names of right now for putting FF7 in the front of a 100 million dollar advertising campaign in the US... and a similar budget for Europe.

Afterall when FF7 was announced Saturn was outselling the PS1 in Japan.

Makes sense.  It makes sense that the cartridge part was only half the explanation.

So do you know of any other games that Sony did this with?

He's just trying to get people's attention away from the fact that Microsoft's strategy is simply Sony's PS2/PS1 strategy revived.

Sony would also be spending money on third party content if they could afford a bidding war with MS. After all, most of the important games on Playstation consoles have always been third party, the only really important first-party series is Gran Turismo.

Do we vote on Post of the Week or anything?  We should.  I vote this one.  Because it is actual and factual.

I think Koller may be retiring soon!

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

Sony should stop whining when it was 3rd party games that made their own previous consoles so successful. And now that someone else is beating them to it they cry. Well boo-hoo.

you wouldnt call 1 million consoles a foothold in Japan then?

oh...and you completely missed my point.......

In relation to the amount of money they have thrown at it? Quite frankly, no.

Take of your fanboy glasses. MS has made a huge headway into Japan.

From

1:26 ratio for Xbox vs PS2

to

1:3 ratio for X360 vs PS3

Yes, much better. Only they had a big head start, have cut the cost of the system massively, and spent a fortune buying exclusives, none of which have put out. As it stands now, HW and SW is getting owned, with no big games on the Horizon, and owners with nothing to look forward to but E74. Great.

Metal Gear Solid seems likely as well.  It was in a similar case.  MGS was originally planed for the 3DO... and later switched over to the PS1 exclusivly shortly after it and the saturn released.  Despite the Saturn holding the early advantage.

Ridge Racer was conspiciously only on the Playstation as well when other Namco games were multiplatform and this one was popular in the arcades and a fairly surer hit then the others.

The same could be said of Air Combat.

Bushido Blade was one of the other SE bought exclusives as well.

Used have a fairly large list... but as you can imagine it's hard to re look things up now a days with the terms "Playstation" and "Paid exclusivity".

What don't you understand??? Big head start??? Only one year while the PS2 had two years on the Xbox.

SONY=Japanese company

MS=American company

Man SONY fanboys are now happy their lead over the MS console has dwindled?? You say its much better but its getting owned??? Even MS didnt expect to sell more 360 than PS3 just to make Japan not a huge user base for SONY which it did achieve.

Are you really happy that SONY has lost the 22Million lead they had with PS2 vs Xbox?? Now its down to 2Million.

Also they released early because they were smart. They didnt need bluray and didn't sit on there ass gloating about the PS2 like SONY. Headstarts happen due to strategy and hardwork. Same thing happened when SONY released the PS2.

What is your point? The 360 is dead in the water in Japan. Why are you going on about PS2? Even that is outselling the 360! Yes, MS did better this time around in Japan, but it is already over for them and the PS3 is just getting started...

How is it over??? They are doing the best ever in Japan right now. YOY sales are up. They sell 5k constantly compared to less than 1k for the Xbox. Even if the ratio goes to 1:5, thats a huge success. Its like asking a company like GM automatically take over HONDa in sales in Japan. Thats hard and almost impossible. MS is taking it one step at a time from 1:26 to 1:5 to 1:1/2 is amazing.

Throwing millions at something and having barely anything to show for it is not what I would call amazing. Name 1 game coming out in Japan for the 360 in the next six months that is going to sell. At the launch, Peter Moore said they would be number 1. lolz.
