Get a Wii, it plays GC games plus it has a great library of titles arleady and it has absolutely awesome Virtual Console with loads of classic games. In every genre you'll find something interesting.

I saw brand new Gamecubes still in stock at one of my local store for $49.99. It all depends on what games etc are you looking forward to more. If all that's appealing on the Wii is just Gamecube stuff then you might as well get a Gamecube.
