Lost & Damned Sells 1 Million Copies

Microsoft have boasted that Grand Theft Auto IV expansion The Lost & Damned has broken Xbox Live revenue records. But what does that mean for unit sales?

The Cut Scene reckon that, according to "a good source", the add-on has sold "around one million units on Xbox Live". Microsoft can't confirm this number, but it does sound awfully familiar.

If that unconfirmed number checks out, that equates to around $20,000,000 in revenue for Microsoft. Which, yes, for something like Xbox Live probably is a revenue record. But is it a sales success? There are 6-7 million copies of Grand Theft Auto IV out there on 360, so "only" a million sales of Lost & Damned sounds like a (relatively) disappointing return.

Why it's increasingly important that there's no DLC in NPD [The Cut Scene]

Terribly disappointing, especially considering Microsoft forked $50 millions for it.

They forked over $50 million for two episodes... And it's hard to believe that the DLC will suddenly stop selling.

I think a problem Microsoft made this generation is not having a hard drive as standard for all models. Who knows how many potential sales they lost because of it. Also Xbox Live is constantly growing and I'm sure by next generation we'll be seeing DLC with sales that far exceed GTA 4: The Lost & Damned.

That advance payment of $50 mill to to R* was to persuade people to buy GTA4 on the 360, move more consoles, and I think it worked..

the added $20mil plus added $$$ from the next DLC just goes back in their pocket for later.

Yep, and it would have costed Rockstar less to make this DLC than KZ2 did Guerilla because they already had the engine (from GTA4) and the layout of this liberty city already done.

Not especially, killzone 2 sold pretty good, And if the lost and the damned broke revenue records for Xbox live, i somehow doubt that it could be considered a disapointment.

Oh come on, on a console where 7 million bought the game and only 1 in 7 bought the DLC priced at $20? Thats disappointing no matter what console it was.

Even Pachter predicted 2-3 million. But, I guess, when is he ever right?
