Just wondering will the trend go west (pardon the pun).
Would it mean the beginning of the end of the Wii if it happened or just a blip.
Your thoughts would be interesting.

No. The Wii is trending downwards in Japan because it has a lack of appealing releases in a time of greatly expanding handheld releases and some of the biggest releases the PS3 has seen to date. In the west, the Wii has never had this problem and it won't any time soon.
According to the uber analyst, it won't happen for another two years and I always trust those analysts.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
Well eventually it'll have to just not as fast paced as it did in Japan. Wii is sitting pretty dominant right now especially in America. And DS is doing so well in Europe that Wii will just float along right with it. I mean it would take a lot to take it down.
There's not much the other consoles could really do to affect it either. Only one scenario I think presents a potential issue to Wii in the future that could be caused by a console. That's if Sony releases GT5 along with a price drop for the PS3. I think that could really affect it with such a big game and a price drop. Of course that's still only one event and what about long run.
Right now it's looking pretty good for the Wii in the west and I think Wii will return to somewhat of it's dominance in the east eventually. But as long as Wii Fit is still this hot with good 3rd party support and other big Ninty games, Wii should be fine.
Well there are no indications of any slowdown in the West. The Wii's situation in Japan is not something new, end of 2008 until release of AC was quite slow overall, as is the situation of all home consoles in Japan.
( I mean 3 combined selling around 45k a week is weak imo) all being were based on Software releases. Wii does need big software there (WSR, MHIII, TALES, Gunadm are coming), and it will be back on Top selling more then opposition combined, PS3 have been on top by few weeks but its not like some sort of Wii disaster.
There arent that many big releases in the West as well from Nintendo or 3rd parties at the moment (compared to what HD twins got) but like i said it does not affect the sales of the console especially in NA. Therefore i think there is no real chance for some kind of Wii slowdown in the West.

Without trying to apear rude, would you not agree there releases are slim enough westside as well?
Monster Hunter 3, in conjunction with WSR should keep the Wii up for a considerable time in Japan, hopefully until the hoildays.
Given Wii Sports' popularity, WSR is likely to be seen as the jump from DS to DS lite for the Wii by the consumers.

The reason is that Japanese people are much more "game-sensitive" than the people in the West. So the Wii basically needs a steady flow of games to keep it going fast.
