Lack of availability of a Limited Edition console is not evidence of a shortage. The who point of a limited edition console is that they are are only a small quantityof them available.
I think PS3 has been supply constraint since like September. It's now finally being restocked.
We will have to wait when March NPD are released before we jump to any conclusions.Pachter could be using VGChartz American numbers. VGChartz always adjusts their numbers to match NPD when their are discrepancies between VGChartz numbers and NPD numbers. Pachter is wrong most of the time.
The hardware numbers on VGChartz are close to the mark most times. Frequently game sales on VGChartz are not so close to the official sales numbers: either over tracked or under tracked. Hardware shipment numbers are widely available to the public and the sales numbers will always be less than shipment numbers.

That's what I think is quite possible! It would make a lot of sence to do so...
