Forums - Gaming - Has the Xbox 360 accepted defeat in 2009?

What a shitty article. If the 360 has accepted defeat this year, it's still selling more than the PS3 which according to some is going to have a bumper 2009 because of which exclusives exactly? Which games are going to send PS3 sales through the stratosphere and leave the 360 trailing in the dust? Some people need a reality check. A price cut would do wonders though.

ins't E3 in June? that like half the year gone already and everyone expects a ton of games to be announced coming out this year(???). MS might have many games to show at E3....but few for this year, more so for next year. And I expect a reiteration of games we already knew were going to be coming out for it.

Yet if Sony takes the price cut, keeps up with the games due this year, and release info of even more next year then they are set. Everyone know the only reason 360 gained it's momentum back was because of the price cut. 360 extended itself just enough out of the PS3's range to call itself a bargain against it.If Sony does another price cut they will most likely start selling ahead of 360.....again(not by unreasonable proportions though).

I say PS3 line up, 50 dollar price cut at E3, and another 50-100 dollar price cut around Christmas will assure Sony domination this year.

I wouldn't say MS has given up or isn't trying, just that Sony is trying harder then ever before.

Dude i think you're being a bit over optimistic, how can Sony afford to cut the price of PS3 by 150$ this year? They still selling consoles at a loss (and thats without including, storage, shipping, bundling it with software constantly etc. etc.). Sony shouldnt care about "dominating" 360 first they need to look for profit even if it means being outsold by the 360 and the Wii on regular basis.

And with MS having few games this year, im sure they will have a good line-up as well also a lot of from Sony line-up wont probably even be released in 2009 (GT, FF XIII Japan, GoW) etc. etc.

I really hope PS3 can start making profit, and i think Sony fans should stop caring that amouch about catchin MS in sales.

righto...although i dont think ms will have a better line up than sony....n i think sony will have a much lesser loss this year...or maybe a little profit

Anyone arguing that the 360's lack of currently announced upcoming exclusives doesn't matter because the 360 didn't have a ton of exclusive releases around this time last year and are hoping that Microsoft will just churn out the games this E3 needs a reality check.

Here are the facts of the matter.

1. Between June and December 2008, 360 had 29 exclusive and console exclusive games released for it around the world.
2. We knew about 20 (69%) of those 29 games by this time last year.
3. Those 20 games we already knew about accounted for roughly 85% of the combined sales for those 29 games as of today.
4. Not a single one of the 9 games we didn't already know about by this time last year has sold 500k as of today.

So not only did we know about almost 70% of the games released from June to December none of the ones we didn't know about were anything close to huge sellers. Now let's look at this year in comparison. Last year at this time we knew of 20 games upcoming for that 7 month period. This year we know of 9.

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Alan Wake
Champions Online
Divinity 2: Eco Draconis
Dungeon Hero
Halo 3: ODST
Ninety-Nine Nights II
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction
Venetica

Of those 9 games, Champions Online and Halo 3: ODST are the only ones with solid release dates. All the others are simply TBA 2009 and any number of them could possibly be delayed until next year.

So we know that Microsoft's lineup is already shaky, particularly in comparison with last year but E3 is just a couple of months away, surely Microsoft will announce a ton of great games there, right? Well, yes and no. Last year, 5 games were announced to be exclusively coming to 360. Those games were Lips, Scene It? Box Office Smash, You're in the Movies, Naruto: The Broken Bond, and Namco Museum Virtual Arcade. Not exactly the killer list everyone would have hoped for, and as I stated earlier, not a single one has sold over half a million as of today.

Now I very much expect that Microsoft will have both more and bigger new game announcments for us this year such as Forza Motorsport 3, Scene It? 3, Naruto 3, and probably a new game from Rare, but anyone deluding themselves into thinking that Microsoft is going to be able to magically announce a slew of million selling killer games that we didn't have any clue were in development is setting themselves up for huge dissappointment.

For the love of god Brett get rid of quoting over certain size posts. This is so stupid that I had a comment of which after scrolling for 2 days straight to get to the bottom of the thread, isn't even worth posting anymore.

But I'll post it anyway..

This again? You Sony fanboys are getting to be pathetic. Threads like this are the reason I don't consider myself a fanboy - I like PS3 better, but you fanboys are just retarded.

*SIGH* If i could only add people like you to my "Black Sheep" list , but that would put a hole in the whole logic of the black sheep theme.

But its nice to see im not the only one to think the way i do ,except i dont think anyones retarded.

im predicting a massive explosion of PS3 HW and SW sales from this November onwards so yeah i agree with the thread title

theres really not to much left for MS to do there console is 199$ now and will probably go to 180$ in the fall how much lower can they go this year? and dont forget about this years coincidences for the ps3 that mirror 07

If we're talking about "defeat" then I assume this is regarding software sales. I might be getting this thread wrong, but I see this as quite the opposite scenario. What exactly does Sony have in their PS3 lineup to go up against Halo 3: ODST? We can make quips all day about it being an expansion pack, 2/3rds of a game, etc. etc. but good odds say that expansion pack, with it's likely very low development costs, is getting to outsell and take in more profit than every Sony published title this year. From Microsoft's point of view, I'm sure that is in no way accepting defeat.

From a fanboy "This lineup is better than your lineup" scenario, I don't give a shit enough to comment.

I assumed this was more of "defeat" in the sense of a weaker catalog of games due to be released this year for their consumers to buy.  As in, if you were looking to purchase a system today and were interested in some upcoming titles...Which systems catalog would appeal to you more?

But I don't know.  Your scenario could very well be likely as well.

If it's sales...Ofcourse Microsoft isn't accepting defeat...
