Forums - Sales - Does Nintendo have something bigger than Wii Sports Resort for X-Mas 2009?

If anything, this thread actually shows how bad the Wii's lineup is for the rest of the year. Rock Band: Beatles isn't exactly what I'd call a console pusher or even a big game, and it's multiplatform anyways. And most of the games are speculative at best.

Do we even know the extent of the lineup? You already know how secretive Nintendo is, and it's only April anyway. Unlike Sony and MS who announce stuff early...

What games are speculative? Some dates are, but we know about all those games except RS2 which will probably be announced soon anyway (probably some mags as some are hinting on it).

What's the last big release that Nintendo just announced out of nowhere and ended up coming out a couple months later? And the speculative games are ones like Zelda which I really don't see coming out this year since we've barely heard anything about it. Nintendo's not so secretive that they're completely random and announce things out of nowhere.

The Wii lineup isn't bad. He was asking for big hits, the Wii is getting tons of great games besides the ones named like Overlord, Muramasa, Little Kings Story, The Conduit, Arc Rise Fantasia, Kizuna, Valhalla Knights, Takt of Magic, EA's Grand Slam Tennis, Cursed Mountain, Silent Hill, Spyborgs, Excitebots, Rabbids Go Home, Punch-Out, Sin and Punishment 2, EA Active and many, many others along with a bigger number of multipatform games like Dirt 2, Formula 1, EA sports brand, tons of GH's and Rock Bands, movie games like GI Joe and Wolverine, possibly Modern Warfare 2, some other rumored stuff and a huge line-up of excellent downloadable games.

The thing is there's not a big hit included in those I listed. Will be a pretty good year, but ironically thanks to 3rd parties rather than Nintendo itself at least going by the current lineup.

Wii Sports Resort and MotionPlus came out of nowhere...although those are releasing in July overseas. There was also Wii Music and Animal Crossing - announced at E3, came out before the end of the year. So yes, they can announce stuff for year's end.

Btw, I edited my post. Nintendo games aren't the only good games on the Wii...how come people always complain about Wii third party support but when there are some good ones coming they soon cry there's nothing from Nintendo and now the Wii lineup is bad? The lineup isn't bad at all.

Wii Sports Resort didn't come out of nowhere. We've known about it since E3 2008. Here's an article from 9 months ago talking about it. And now we're seeing Wii Sports Resort to release in Japan only in July, a year after this article was written. That time span isn't comparable to the one we're talking about here. Plus, we've known about Wii Music and seen beta models for it since 2006, and I don't think Animal Crossing required much development effort. At least not as much as a full scale Zelda game.

Of course Nintendo games aren't the only good games on the Wii anymore. Nintendo barely releases any good games, so they have to be coming from somewhere. The Wii lineup may not be bad (plenty of people could be happy with it), but it's very disappointing next to the HD lineups, which by all means shouldn't beat the Wii's library considering the lower userbases and higher development costs. Most HD owners have so many game releases flying at them that they can't think straight.

And I know it's 3 in the morning, but next time use commas. You confused the crap out of me with that last line.

Oh, I disagree with your opinion. But let's agree to disagree because this could be one of those arguments that turns ugly and I don't want to go to sleep feeling like I did something bad.

If you think about what Nintendo have been doing, they've been revealing their entire Q3/Q4 line up at E3 except for perhaps one or two titles (WarioLand, Mario Super Sluggers) and also showing off a big title for spring in the following year.

I think looking at things again.. They'll have more third party support to show this year and instead of a Shaun White demo, they may show Red Steel 2 or Mario & Sonic in depth. The best guess I have is that the two big Nintendo titles for the holidays will be Pikmin 3 and Wii Fit Plus. I have a feeling that maybe Nintendo will have it's best year software wise in the eyes of core fans in 2010..

Yeah, I believe 2010 is going to be THE year of the Wii if we go by 1st party games.

2010 is going to be the year of the Wii? There's a similar thread going up around from people saying that it will be the year of the 360. And I seriously doubt Sony and the companies developing PS3 games are just sitting around with their thumbs up their butts. Everyone is going to be bringing out lots of games in 2010. The fourth year after the dominant console's release is usually the climax of the generation from a games standpoint. 2004 saw a lot of big releases (most notably the highest selling games on the PS2 and Xbox). 1999 was a fairly busy time for the 5th generation as well. 1998 was probably the biggest year of the generation, but Sony launched the Playstation in Japan in 1994 and most of the big development back in the 5th generation was from Japanese companies.

Everyone's going to be bringing their best for 2010. At least for 2009, you can make assumptions. Saying that a console will win 2010 without even having the faintest idea about the games coming out is really foolish, and I thought some of the members here would know better.

@ Montana: Can't the Wii have it's best year while the other's do too? No one said anything about being the best console of 2010.

Usually when someone says "the year of the ______," it's because it's the year of that thing and that thing only. Sort of like how the year of the dragon is not also the year of the monkey, ox, etc.

Ok well I didn't mean it like that, I meant that it would be Nintendo's best year software wise for Wii
