That very same "need" is what turned Resident Evil 5 into a disgraceful crapfest. Instead of making the game around the fun of surviving the horrific circumstances presented by the storyline (à la RE4), we were force-fed a co-op experience to which a plot was badly attached. Argh!

There is more than the co-op to blame for turning resident evil 5 into a disgraceful crapfest. No, what I blame more in resident evil 5 is naught the co-op they shoved down our throats. But instead the multiplayer add-on to play deathmatch or whatever, that is what the multiplayer experience of the 7th generation should not be.
There are many flaws in resident evil 5. However if done correctly even a horror survival could have been done right in co-op. Take a look at resident evil 5, then take a look at left4dead. One took co-op and did it well, the other took co-op and make you vomit at it. Before you complain about how the multiplayer or co-op in resident evil 5 is the biggest flaw, complain about the theme, the story, the plot, and the recycled RE4 baddies.
Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?
I could complain about all that, but I simply believe that all the work they poured into making the co-op that we ended up getting, didn't allow them the time to put effort into the other areas of the game that you mentioned. As such, the theme, the story, the plot and the recycled RE4 baddies are what we got.
In conclusion, time and effort misplaced. Shinji Mikami on RE6 please.
The original game was great by being a single player game. I see no need for multi-player mode in Dead Rising 2. Just make the game longer.

Don't forget CoD5's zombie mode. It can be pretty damn fun and hectic, though I thought the DLC zombie map was kinda crappy.
Anyways, the only singleplayer-only game I own this gen is Grid, which I still play sometimes. I pretty much never buy sp only games. I made an exception for MGS4 (which I basically treat like an sp game....thank you MGO acount bs), but barely ever touch it anymore.
