If so, then I agree, you are correct.
But then again how is it different from any game? Are not shmups like ikaruga simply pattern recognition? Or are you saying that regardless of skill, rote memorization will always take some time and therefore, difficulty is an integral part of the game?
I would say that really depends. There are plenty of ways to tweak difficulty. Glass Joe had a more obvious tell than super macho man. Will we be seeing a game where opponents look more like glass joe? Or will we see a similar progression to the original?
Also, when you say they are pitching this one straight at nostalgia, you mean they will ignore their new core demographic and make it hard right?
