Forums - Microsoft - xbox 720,some possibillities iv found

I have beel looking up info on the next xbox and found alot of different possibilities, heres some possible info iv found

1 A built in blu ray/hd dvd drive.I have always been saying that the next xbox will fail unless it has blu ray in it but now im not so shur

2 NO DISC DRIVE All games would be downloaded from xbox live,or they would have cards in stores that have codes on the back of them like microsoft points, you only need a silver account most likely and it woul have the option of a 500 gb hdd, a 750 gb hdd and a 1 terabyte hdd

3 A dvd drive but all games would automatically install to a hdd.I dont think that would be a good idea

I have seen 3-4 different CPUs so i really dont know what it will have in it chip wise

It will most likely have built in wifi,i have heard that it may have voice capabillities and most likely it will have motion like the other consoles, those are just some possibillities

FORWARD COMPATIBILLITY!!! If microsoft can pull this off it would be awsome, during the first year of a consoles life it doesnt have that much games so this would make it easier on developers, basically its like playing gears of war 3 (yes 3) and it looks awsome plays great and is a awsome game but when you put it in the next xbox it will actually improve the game, that meens it will make the visuals crisper the framerate better and make the game overall better, for example its like playing crysis on a standard pc its still a great looking game but when you put in a high end gaming pc it looks better plays better and is overall a better game.

This all just speculation and possibillities so we will have to wait and see,it probably wont be untill E3 2010 untill we know what it will have.Release date around 2011-2012

Wait...

so ignoring the fact that it has a HD DVD Drive Annnnnd a BluRay Drive

It has both then... it suddenly has no disk drive?

Then after they give it the dead HDDVD drive.. take it away.. replace it with a dvd drive that it doesn't need?

Yep... their going to do that..

Online only?

sure if you want to ignore half of ur previous user base..

Forward compatibility?

that doesn't even make sense..

Predictions.

1. Wii will never reach 50% market share.

2. Kz2 will sell 1.3 first week 3.5 LT.
Sales predictions for 09.

Wii - 69 - 72
PS3 - 32 - 34
X360 - 39 - 41

I believe the OP is saying it's EITHER:
Blu-Ray, HD-DVD,(I wouldn't be surprised if it was either, but if they continue on the media center route then I'd lean towards Blu-Ray)
Download only,(Unlikely at this point in time, people generally prefer physical media and the infrastructure is still a bit lacking)
or DVD with a huge HDD for installs.

Also forward compatibility makes complete sense, just not in the way the OP is explaining it(which is actually backwards compatibility). Forward compatibility would be the option of playing a next-gen game(to extend the OP's example, say Gears of War 4 for X720) on your current-gen system(in this example it'd be on the X360), likely with reduced textures, resolution, framerate, etc.

yeah because putting a blu ray drive in it would not make sense and a combined hd-dvd and blu ray would! nah lol man that doesn't really make sense seeing as hd dvd is gone. And i guess forward compatibility would be called backward compatibility on the xbox 4 (gosh we are getting real ahead of ourselves!)

Forward compatibility does make sense but then it'll make the X720 seem like a DSi type upgrade to the consumer. I mean Microsoft could go for that and keep selling 360's alongside as a cheaper alternative.. I'd think that they want to start fresh though and leave the whole RRoD issue behind them.

Besides that I agree that the X720 will have a blu-ray drive

i was saying those were options and what i was saying for 1 is that it would be a player that could play both hd dvd discs and blu ray discs,as for forward compatibility thats how the site explained it so i might be wrong it still may be backwards compatibility

No... Forward compatibility does NOT make sense...

it completely defeats the purpose of making another system..

Why would you pay 500+ dollars for a system when the system you already have can play the exact same games..

the games would only look a little bit better and that does not meen that there would be NO X720 games it just meens that games of the last gen would look a bit better

For the same reason that people upgrade their computers. The game will look much better on the latter generation system. For the most part that's been the sole reason for each generation of consoles also.

Your idea of FORWARD COMPATIBILITY is already implemented though, isn't it? U r able to run PS2 games in a higher resolution on the PS3, arent u?.
