Forums - Gaming - Why do people love to hate Final Fantasy ?

Popularity = Internet Hate. It makes you look "hip".

I used to make fun of FFVII. It was funny. Since I've started coming here, I've stopped. What's the point of hating on something if 30 people are going to agree with you?

The series is not that bad, nor is it that good. But have you seen how pahetic people look meeting each other halfway? Compromise is for pussies.

I don't hate the series. I just hate how the series has evolved to playing itself while other RPG's don't get the credit they deserve for more immerse game play.

Eh, i've had they chance to play a bunch of FF games and I can honestly say that they are not for me. I find the turn based gameplay used after FF4 to be way to complicated. I usually can't stand random encounters, especially if im traveling somewhere.

But hey that's me. There are some JRPGs that are my favorite games of all time. I just find FF to be average.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

I think it has something to do with that the series went to ps1 instead of n64 which made ninty-fans butthurt and now ps-fans are butthurt because it is a multiplat. :P

I don't hate FF, I'm just sick and tired of the new games. The best thing going in the franchise right now IMO is the DS remakes.

I've always found the FF series to be seriously mediocre in terms of story and gameplay. It has never really evolved from anything. (Except graphics)

Yeah, I finally have a sig.

cus of the melodrama in the games

as a kid you can live with it, as an adult youre embarrassed you ever liked it

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

I dont hate FF just blind FF fanboys who think FF > everything else

And I hate Blind Metal Gear fanboys who think MGS > everything else

Same goes goes for blind Halo fanboys who think Halo > everything else

This also includes blind Zelda fanboys who think Zelda > everything else

This can be said about any fanboys of a series not just Final Fantasy.

I think equating "success" with "hate", while on the right track, is fundamentally wrong.

People don't hate the series because it is popular, they hate it because it is popular despite better alternatives being on the market. One can argue the quality of Final Fantasy titles in regards to its competition, as they can with any game.
However, it is very clear that other franchises, especially recently, have been successful in pushing the genre forward and drastically improving the formula Final Fantasy popularized, yet receive little credit past critical acclaim.

Another way to look at it involves brand name. It is, all subjectivity aside, quite obvious that Final Fantasy has brought the Japanese RPG to the mainstream audience, and in many ways created that genre.
Despite this, can the same be said for the recent Final Fantasy's? Have the recent installments in the series had the same innovation and quality that those before them did? That's debatable, and many find that they fall well short of their competition while simultaneously selling much better.

Agreed, many other better rpg's have been overlooked due to it's popularity.

Also FFVII single handedly sunk the Saturn and cemented the Playstation brand in that generation, had it been released on the Saturn instead, we would still be playing new games on a Sega console.

And all would be right in the world of gaming.

Am I bitter, damn right!
