What is, in your opinion, the best Dragon Quest game that's not 8?

 

There has been some debate on gamefaqs about the best Dragon Quest, and I know there are some fans that hang out here.

 

My personal opinion is, in order :7>5>4>6>3>2>1

4 is my favorite, but to be fair I've only played 7 and 4 and I liked 4 better. I will be getting the new ones on Wii and DS though when they come out.



Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

Have not played 1-3, and I'm waiting to play the DS remake of VI before forming an opinion.

I really liked the simplicity of 1, and with 3, I stopped playing about 8 hours in because I couldn't deal with the generic party system. That was years ago, so when I decide to give it another chance, it could very well change my opinions.
