Forums - Sony - PS3’s lineup for ‘09 too good to be true?

MAG: Shadow War - This game just seems to be another FPS with a new gimmick that will entice many. I1st off, it has all kinds of explosions and 2nd, it boasts an online multiplayer mode that features 256 players!

White Knight Chronicles - Please let there be something announced for E3! this game is complete and only needs to be localized. So my logic tells me…….that there will be a release date announced at E3. End of story.

So MAG is a gimmicky FPS since its getting 256 players online and has "explosions"?? While your extremely excited for an average looking JRPG. I guess your not a fan of FPS.

Anyone who like FPS's and has a PS3 is extremely excited for MAG and your playing it down as an average, gimmick FPS? Sorry that just bothers me.

But as for the rest of the list nice job compiling all the good games that will be out in 2009 and maybe 2010.

I think the guy doesn't know what gimmick means. He's probably confusing it with 'feature'

Here's what I see releasing this year-

Heavy Rain- September/October
MAG- September/October
R & C- Crack in Time- November
Uncharted 2- November
WKC- November
God of War 3- November
And 1 or 2 more unannounced games for Q4.

GT5 and Team ICO's game in early/mid 2010.

March 2010 trust me you will know I'm right when E3 rolls over ;)

as for the other games I think ethier MAG or Heavy Rain will release in August

You're probably right. But I'm a God of War fanboy who wants it as soon as possible

Is anyone else here worried that for all these titles to make 2009, they'll have to be released in close proximity at the few last months of the year... just like last year?

No.  Just look at the PS2's holiday lineup in 2001.  Devil May Cry, Jak and Daxter:  The Precursor
Legacy, Metal Gear Solid 2, GTA III, Baldur's Gate:  Dark Alliance, Final Fantasy X, ICO all released within a few weeks of each other and look how things turned out as a result of that.

But... this is the PS3 we're talking about. Only the Sony executives look at the PS2 for ideas on what to do...

You forgot to add the possibility for disapointing final results. Sony has a really good lineup this year, but some of those could end up being duds. LIke lair and heavy rain and other games that have boasted huge promise but fell flat.

Out of the list, I would say (as far as quality) you can only guarantee good quality out of god of war, GT, uncharted, and ratchet and clank. The others aren't guaranteed, but that doesn't mean they won't be. However, there are always hyped up games that fall flat, like lair and too human.

Er, Heavy Rain isn't released yet.

....and name me all the rest of Sonys quality failures. LBP (Fantastic game), Killzone 2 (Fantastic game), Resistance 1 & 2 (Critically accliamed).

Sony as a company, are renouned for quality and as far as I see it, that continues with games

I meant to say heavenly sword, but I just read the op so that was in my head.  other games would be haze, motostorm pacific rift, socom, and more but I'm not going to list them all.

and I'm hardly an xbot people.  I own all 3 consoles and I play them all.  I'm probably just more of a realist then most of you.  Just because it has the name sony or microsoft on the package doesn't guarantee it's a good product.  Microsoft has it's fair share of failures and Nintendo does as well.  The original topic was asking if this years line up was too good to be true, I'm just throwing that possibility out there as one way it might be too good to be true.

freaking fanboys.

Motorstorm didn't fail, none of them. Socom - Ok, i'l give you that one and ofcourse Haze was BS.

Heavenly sword didn't fail either. So congrats, you have named me two proper Sony titles that have failed (lair, Socom)....not much considering how many titles they release.

Just a quick correction for the OP. MGS4 did not come out on time. It was originally slated for Q1 2008 and got pushed back to June 2008. Also I can recall 2007 very vividly and early on people were expecting MGS4 that Fall, until EBgames sent that memo that said the game was getting pushed back to March 2008.

ok, motorstorm pacific rift is the sequel and it did fail, both commercially and critically, so I don't know what you are smoking.  Heavenly sword is game that although it was good, did not live up to the promise.  This was the game that was suppose to be the big ps3 game when it came out.  So when it came out and only got average review scores a just over a million units sold, I would say it didn't live up to it's promise.

again, what I'm saying these games didn't live up to their promise or hype, not that they are bad.  although most of them are, although I actually liked motorstorm and heavenly sword, that doesn't mean they lived up to their promise.

it's insane.

whats crazy it's continues on 2010!!!!

If M.A.G gets released at the same time as COD MW2 I wouldn't be suprised if Zipper Interactive went bankrupt a few months later :O

I can't believe you guys are knocking Heavenly Sword. That game was a blast -- it was only "too short" because it was fun and gamers wanted more, sorta like MadWorld.

Sony does seem to shoot for the high bar though. I doubt any of these games will be below average quality, and most of them will likely be pretty darn good. Doesn't Sony, as a publisher, have the highest average metacritic score of all console publishers in the past 10 (or so) years? (I would find the link if I wanted to spend 30 mins digging) I thought even Nintendo was #2, even if just by a couple points. I think it's fair to assume that the chance of a Sony published game being poor is about the same as the chance of a Nintendo game being poor... i.e. not very likely.

Don't just steal people's articles, give links at the start.

oops sorry i always 4get...why are links even important??n who even thinks i would be jobless enough to write such a big article??!!

They aren't important so that people know you haven't written them; they are important to give credit to the original author. What you are doing is much like software piracy (though you're not the only one on VG Chartz).
