Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft and Sony combine forces in new anti-Apple commercial

they "bought"/sorta a Sony Vaio. I don't know why it is, but my friend and I have the worse personal IT experience with Viao. There two things about Viao that come to mind.

1. Wow what excellent design, features and performance for the price.
2. They are the biggest pile of broken laptops sitting in various office buildings more than any other laptop.

I once tried to see if I could put together a working laptop from broken ones. Suffice to say the amount of Sony Viao there were enough that used the same parts I was able too. Let alone they were out piled the others around 8:1.

It's like the original PSP. Great product for the price, but flimsy as hell. This is not something you want for portable. At least the people didn't pay for it.

Also on note of the commercial. That is probably one of the better and worst ways to do a commercial. Show real people in real like circumstances and show them enjoying the product. It's very real and more inspiring to a shopper. To be fair though they didn't notably put down Apple except for the price. Backing that up I've rarely come across a broken Apple laptop. You don't get much feature out of it, but it typically on average a more solid machine when compared to a Vaio.

LOL, I have an original PSP and the only problems I have had were my fault....broken screen cause I got pissed. I fixed it and it is still running strong. As for Sony Vaio, I used one for 3 years doing HT installs and had no problems with it either. I guess its how you take care of it.

I used to love Apple and despised Windows. I only used windows because I had too and enjoyed coming home to my MAC. Now however that has switched. I cant stand Apple or anything they put out. There computers are slow as hell, the software is ridiculously expensive and the times of programs being self contained has gone out the window.  Windows XP is a pretty good OS, Vista sucks but 7 is much better. Apples Ipod is a joke, as is ther Iphone. Much like Nintendo though people are flocking to the hype and advertising.

Around the Network

In the long run "Windows" is doomed primarily because the PC market has stagnated and the vast majority of users can do everything they want to do on any computer made in the past 5 years running any operating system ... Unless a lot of "Killer Apps" are developed that suddenly make it difficult for people to live without a Windows PC, in 10 years time people won't care what the operating system is on their PC because most applications they want to use will be web-based or available as free software that comes pre-installed on (practically) every system.

Vaios don't have the best reputation as the most reliable PCs. But it seems that Sony basically gave up a level of QC in the interest of expanding their market within the laptop market.

They're not all overpriced as you can buy your basic budget models for well under $1000. They might even look a bit better than your average similarly priced laptop since the Vaio brand has traditionally placed an emphasis on aesthetics, but a cheaper laptop will use cheaper components, more prone to failure.

I wouldn't be surprised if their upscale business models had a higher reliability than their mainstream models, but this really isn't a discussion about Sony PCs; this is about a Microsoft commercial selling the PC as a Microsoft Brand computer.

But one of the most invalidating aspects of all these commercials is the fact that it states beforehand if the consumers in the commercials can find the laptop they want with their budget, MS will pay for it.

Repeat, MS will pay for it.

Now if someone told you they'd buy you a laptop that met your criteria so long as it wasn't an Apple, would you take it and act thrilled to get paid for the camera?

I'd rather have a MacBook Pro, but if choosing a PC meant someone else was subsidizing it, it's kind of a no-brainer to take the money. Even if you returned it the next day and used the difference to buy the Mac you really wanted.

The ads are staged, scripted and the people appearing on them are professional actors/models.
