In the long run "Windows" is doomed primarily because the PC market has stagnated and the vast majority of users can do everything they want to do on any computer made in the past 5 years running any operating system ... Unless a lot of "Killer Apps" are developed that suddenly make it difficult for people to live without a Windows PC, in 10 years time people won't care what the operating system is on their PC because most applications they want to use will be web-based or available as free software that comes pre-installed on (practically) every system.
