don't spend $1000 on a tv where you could get one for at least a hundred less.

Point in example, my brother just got a 42" vizio, 1080p, 5ms, 120hz, at wal-mart for $850 and that included tax...and the tv is absolutely top notch perfect picture quality!!

Vizio's are alright, but for best quality & price, go with a Samsung.  My Samsung comparable to my uncles Sony (both 46" 1080p w/ similar specs), and mine was $500 cheaper. 1 1/2 yrs ago.

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M

The Bravias are great TVs, it was either an XBR or the 750 series Samsung. I went with the Samsung, since it was cheaper and had better specs. Go for it, as for distance away, according to my manual minimum sitting distance is 6' for a 52", so I imagine its 5' for a 40"

Dont buy a S series  40 inch a lot of people have been having complaints with that tv

"While watching movies, the TV changes settings automatically when the scene is dark. Either the contrast, bright or backlight gets even darker making very difficult to see what is going on. When the movie changes to a lighter scene, it takes a second or two to restore the previous illumination settings."

I can agree that it is a problem with the new s5100 series I sell tvs and i had around 3 returns just cause of that problem!

I'd suggest the samsung b550 series instead, or if the b530 if u dont mind having an entry level tv. The b550 is much nicer looking and the picutre is great on it.

I gotta bounce out my gf is throwing me something, but just take my advice or go look at the sony s5100 series and really make sure you like it over the b530( i suggest the b550).

I never login at this site and as soon as you said s5100 I logged in just specificlly warn you. So look up the tvs in that price range.

Sonys havent been that reliable as of lately, just because its a sony doesnt mean much Ive had more complaints with sony than samsung for like 5 months already.

Isnt that because the new Bravias have a motion sensor built in to detect motion. If there is no motion it will dim the screen, if there isnt any for like 3 hours it shuts the TV off.

The dimming is directly related to enhance contrast and there is no way to completely turn it off,  there is no motion sensor

I did hear it got worse though with the 2009 line up

its gotten notcieably worse, In matter of fact whoever got that Z series got a good TV! def one of the best affordable tvs of last generation.

Samsung, best value, awesome quality!

Okay, so I just got back from my shopping trip...

I picked up the Sony Bravia that I had in mind as well as the 160gb ps3. I would have picked up the 80gb and just upgraded the harddrive but I figured it was worth it to get Uncharted with it. Also picked up Valkyria Chronicles, Resident Evil 5, Bioshock, Sonic Unleashed, Silent Hill Homecoming, and Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm.

So as soon as I get finished setting up the menu and everything I guess I'm off to game for quite a while...Thanks everybody once again for all the help, I will make sure to let you know how impressed I am. Maybe a little later I'll look into getting a good sound system.

Lucky you, all I have is a 37inch 768p (it said 1080p on the box even though later I find out it's real native resolution : / ) atleast it's 100Hrz for the sports : )

I'd love to get a 42 inch bravia 200Hrz, but they're hella expensive

Just an FYI there is no 768p, it's 720 :) Just a simple correction for you. Also, are you sure you didn't get 1080i and 1080p confused? I find it hard to believe that 1080p was on the box yet it's resolution being 720p.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/

It handles 1080p input, but it's native pixel resolution (the actual number on lines on the screen) is only 768. So I can run content at 1080p but it only gets displayed at 768.

there is no such thing as a HDTV to big,
ps3 ftw,
