lol, they are weird, granted. But I wouldn't call them "socially corrupting" seems like they are trying to make something out of nothing in this article.
Funny thing, the UK is far more big brother then the US. They have those CCTVs every where. They ban hats in bars so that the cameras can get a good look at your face.

Do they really? It's generaly regarded as polite to remove your hat when going inside but I have NEVER seen a public building forbid hats.
Hoods are forbidden in some places but that's mostly due to the intimidation factor they have.
