Forums - General - The European Union is the Greatest Economy in the World. Will USA catch up?

Highwaystar, I'm sorry if anyone in this thread upset you, but you really should calm down before you get in trouble. The post wasn't very long and in it was one error and one condescending comment. Couple that with a bunch of useless pictures and you have a thread pretty much asking to be ripped apart.

Why do republican Americans get defensive whenever Europeans talk about themselves. Are they insecure that we are a more powerful economy or do they not like our liberal take on things?

a bit of both it would seem, that and some of them maybe, are a little imperialistic (the last one i hope is a joke)

in fairness, i think that the members you refer to arent all republicans

No I'm thinking of four very republican, very anti-British twats, who are very quick to critisise our country with their elitest, hollier that thou dickhead attitudes. I bet none of them have even been to Britain.

Every one of their posts is just filled with logic errors and holes in their facts to make them seem like the dickhead superior race...

WELL I'M FUCKING SICK OF IT NOW!!!!!!! I'M GETTING PISSED OFF!!!!!

And they judge me when I try to defend England, Britain or Europe as though I'm some mental patient who has escaped and is shouting crap at people on the net.

You're right, they percieve themselves as superior to the rest of us.

IMO, Europe/Britain/EU are going to gain superiority sooner or later. And I think they'll  handle this power much better than Amercia, which has abused it. From what I've seen, Europe is much more in favour of peace and doesn't interfere with other countries' matters

But there are more than one country.

It's not this thread it's been building up for a few weeks, that was me boiling over. It was one comment in this thread by a member who always slags off my country and treats me like I'm mental when I defend that set me off. I've just stopped trying now.

Don't worry, us Americans hate the French too.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Europe will be able to field the largest most impressive military planet earth has ever seen. I don't think we want to do that though. We're not really that interested. No offense, but Europe will probably let America do the dirty work (we don't like to get our hands dirty). :/

History has shown, that being a country with more wealth, and less ability to protect it ALWAYS leads to disaster.

as opposed to imperialistic nations that use there money to build a huge military whilst failing to provide basic healthcare to many of its own citizens?

I agree. There are a few fascists/racists/nationalists who piss me off too. A few are joking most of the time but some are serious and just won't accept it if you defend your country.

SciFi, you want to give an example of history that follows your description there?

why should i? mafoo didnt?

but as you asked, i was thinking of the US, you have a huge military but charge you poorest civilians for healthcare, my point is, people in glass houses should not throw stones

Wow, the problem is that European Union is not working as a single economy, this organisation obviously ties those economies yet there are so many differences beetween nations states no once could consider EU as a single economy.

To name a few (cause its late):

-Euro is only a currency in 16 nation states
-There is a huge economic difference beetween states from Former Eastern Bloc (Poland , Hungary, Latvia) and those from the "old" Europe; France, UK or Germany
All those countries benefit differently from common agricultural policy for example
-There is a single market, but there is stiff competition within it.

Plus Europe will never become Unified like the United States, i think it is a bit naive to believe in it. Too many cultural, language, ethnic and historical differences have been beetween the countries, and still are. Plus i dont think that majority of us Europeans would like any more unified Europe (european parliament does not really exert much influence on Goverments, it has authority but rarely uses it). Constitution was rejected recently as well.

European Union is not doing as well as some people might think.
