It is not sure Microsoft is able to reduce their price again.
After all, they are losing money, a lot more than Sony (Rotd, no PS2 back up)
If Sony make a 100$ price drop in europe, I m not sure Microsoft wil follow by his own second price drop

Libellule this is the thread you are alluding to. I posted it on the fourth. There is a serious concern apparently that the 360 has been seriously under tracked in the others regions for the numbers to vary by that kind of scale. Obviously if suck a spike went almost unnoticed then perhaps the European numbers may be further off then expected.

Microsoft is actually losing less money then Sony. I invite you to look further into the financial reports. Nobody knows if Microsoft has reached hardware production price parody. However it is a good guess with the introduction of the falcon that production costs will drop for them far faster then for Sony who has had to modify their design. Further more Sony has failed to meet their manufacturing goals by a far larger margin then has Microsoft. Which has slowed their cost reduction. strategy. Allow me to enlighten you with a article.

Now look at the front page Sony has only moved 4.5 million units world wide. They finally moved their initial shipment in Japan last month, and they have not even finished off the 5.5 million units they shipped stated in the article. They are still eating the larger production costs. Meanwhile Microsoft has moved on to machines with reduced production costs. This all points to one realization. With the PS2 sales slipping, and they will get worse now over time. Sony is actually losing far more on each machine sold, and even their licensing fees are not on par with Microsoft. Which can generate far more with bulk and quality. Not to mention their first party windfalls. They are going to make mountains of cash this holiday season. A billion dollar loss on repairs is paltry in comparison.

I am not entirely sure why people think that Sony is making any more money on their machines now then at the beginning of the year. The sales do not bare that out. Sony might play with funny math, but we sure as hell do not. Even if the latest machine has cut the production costs in half. That machine will not sell till some time next year at the current trends. Meanwhile Microsoft is probably selling their second or third shipment lot at this time. Come the holidays they will be on their fourth or fifth.

The numbers do not lie Sony is still losing as much money on machine sold for each market as they were losing to begin with. The only bright spots are the 80gig, and the European neutered models. Both of which have been stripped of the emotion engine. God I am glad I am not European they got screwed bad. They got it late, stripped down, and over priced. I wonder if that is a factor in these charts as well.

I think one thing's for sure: It's going to be a long, hard fight between these two, maybe moreso in Europe than anywhere else.

It's way too early to assume this is Xbox 360's comeback in Europe, but on the other hand, I also think it's too early to assume PS3 can win Europe. The price gap and the game gap (IMO, 360 has a far better selection now and for the next several months) plus the head-start could keep 360 in the lead for a long time to come.

Even if it allow to reduce the cost, we cannot say "when" or "per how much"
The Falcon project is unclear. Where are the news about the Rotd resolution ?
did they succeed to resolve it ?

Sony may be in the same shit, or worse, but they are used to produce electronic material, a lot more used than Microsoft with their OS.

I have the impression vgchartz just assumes the old Europe=Ukx2.5 argument again to make the total numbers .....and thats not right this time .Uk and continental markets are very different for the 360 ,in the former if does quite well ...in the later it crashes and burns .

What amazes me is that MS and Chartrtracks announce the increase of the 360 numbers and everything is allright but SOny announced the Starter Pack had increased permanently by 60% the PS3 sales and we still see the same numbers as before the Starter Pack .

Well ,I think the "Others " numbers are the more doubtful ones .At least with the NA and Japan ones we have NPD and MC to contrast .I find odd that Sony Europe president says they are weekly outselling the 360 by 3 to 1 in Europe and then see here the 360 beating the PS3 .Maybe Sony Europe president is exxagerating and its PR ,but to go as far as to say they are outselling the 360 by 3x1 when they are being outsold ......sorry but I dont hes taking it so far .

As for the 360 jump ,it may have happened last week .Price cut ,launch of the Elite and the launch of Bioshock were three major events for the console.The odd thing would have been it the numbers didnt grow at all .But that doesnt mean it will keep at those levels ,and we have to see yet what a PS3 price cut can do .

The price drop was advertised to death,Bioshock was hyped to death and the Elite was hyped to death what the hell do you expect the sales to do stay low or go lower?NO you expect them to raise alot because of those three things that happened.They wont hold that point for long though not even Halo3 could hold sales at that height for ever in EU/PAL.

Um no, if they did match a sony cut they would not be profitable in 08, a first for the xbox brand.

Xbox decade of losses, iam sure they want those headlines would make the share holders really happy.

I'm here in ireland and these are the prices of the ps3 (60gb) and teh xbox 360 premium (20gb)

Xbox 360 with one game (AAA title): 350 euro

PS3 with one (AAA) title and one other title along with an extra controller:599 euro

Just for you americans out there to relise how much we are getting raped, the exchange rate is 1 dollar 35 for every euro so knock yourself out to figure out how much we have to pay. It is also worth mentioning that here in europe the emotion engine has been taken out of the PS3 (open for correction) and the 360 comes with hdmi cables while the ps3 does not, another 40 euro for hdmi cables. there is also a problem with the selection of games for the PS3. But i suppose the ps3 is doing very well considering all of these factors. However once Halo 3 comes out and the buzz around it, it might be a hard christmas and spring for sony. Sonys real chance are when some of its AAA titles come out next year. I am open for correction on any of these points, but it shows the disregard that sony seems to show europe, compared with america or japan.
