Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 Europe sales 50% higher than PS3

The 2nd September charts for Europe/Others indicates that the Microsoft console sold upwards of 44,000 units and the PS3 just over 27000 units.

Im pretty sure the 360 units were modified as a result of chart-track's data, as the substantial 360 sales were led by France, Australia and the UK. Sony has some exclusives in the pipeline from francises very popular in Europe, however it would appear Microsoft will be capable of maintaining a substantial price advantage indefinately. Its often assumed that the Xbox 360 will be smashed in Europe by the PS3 eventually. Given these numbers which have arrived BEFORE Halo 3, PGR 4, Mass Effect and JRPG's that should do well in Europe, is it too early to say that Microsoft will be well and truly capable of holding its own in Europe?

Interesting. I hadn't expected Europe to abandon Sony quite this quickly and decisively.

Well apparently all it took was a small price drop and a great game (bioshock). That said, while there is a massive increase is xbox sales, there isnt a drop in ps3 ones. What i think this shows is that microsoft will be competitive in europe this generation, perhaps even come second after wii. But that said i dont think sony will get obliterated

What do you expect? We're paying much more than USA players (don't even dare talk about the Japanese), we have less games to play on and Nintendo is gaining amazing momentum here; odd, PS brand heaviest fortress was Europe; a change of heart, maybe?

Thats a good point, but i was under the impression that microsoft was screwing EU just as much as Sony. Im in Australia and we also get massively inflated prices from both companies and late games. Eternal Sonata, Beautiful Katamari and Ace Combat dont even have release dates here, let alone on time ones

Yeah they are massively over inflated, its bioshock and the elite has finally launched.

People were holding out to replace thier RROD'd with elites.

Well that price drop and the launch of the Elite version boosted sales; it's natural; let's see how it fares in the long run though...

Don't count the PS3 out so fast. It is just two weeks after all. I would say, wait till Christmas is over. If the PS3 can do better than the 360 in Europe Christmas should be it.

Ok, has anyone actually got any evidence to support the notion that people are buying a second 360 to replace a broken one in any sort of consistent, large-scale manner?  Im reading posts like this one but they dont seem to be based on anything.  And with microsofts extensive warranty system, i think it unlikely that most ppl have paid for another console.  Even those that werent covered by warranty would find it cheaper to have it repaired
