  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

1 was classic story, nothing particularly moving

2 was first one with character depth was nice sense of adventure but nothing impactful storywise

3 enlongated 1 basically

4 was amazing as the first to create a multi leveled storyline, focusing on character confusion and an impossible to understand completly tyrannical villain, but comparitavely to other ff and other rpgs it's nothing great now

5 too much emphasis on characters

6 truly remarkable, first absolute masterpiece, still holds up as a solid story and magnificent pacing today, i often dream what happened to the characters after the main storyline

7 now this changed my life, the best story gaming has ever told ever. the most defined villain. one of the most evil villains too and yet you sympathize with him and often find yourself relating to him yet rooting for the main character the whole time because you completely understand his pain. the first ff to not go with an ensemble story, which it has now returned to. the psychological adventure of the main character is as deep and rich as the world that you play him in. graphics are only flaw, but for the day it came out even that was a wow

8 another amazing achievement in story telling. also focusing on the psychological adventure sometimes even more than the world your uncovering the story through. the use of dreams and reality and the folklore of the fictional universe is astounding. up there with ff6 as the most solid ffg. ff7 is a world unto it's own that's never seemed to be duplicated in it's brilliance. but ff6 & 8 have a classic nature to them that isn't unseen in other games just it's done very very well here

9 throwaway the procession toward realism and revert back to fantasy. a highly entertaining and fun and strong story but not the level of emotion that the last three games had. mainly due to it's goal driven story rather than the personal battles that need to be overcome in my opinion

10 the last story masterpiece yet told. the gameplay was way to straightforward, as if the whole game was designed just to tell the linear story. but the story itself was amazing, layered, personal, emotional, and had that brilliant psychological battle that the main character is struggling with and overcomes at the very end that was a huge component in 7's greatness

10-2 an overlooked beatiful game. great fun. and the story is stronger here than all the following ff games that resulted so far. but unfortunately you don't get the full impact unless you got the international version that has the impossible 100 plus stories of dungeon crawling before you get to the one short japanese only scene that ties in 10-2 and 10's story to the level of satisfaction. but that completion in this highly layered and personal journey is worth all the minor cheesy moments and the overlong and arduous dungeons

11 a great story only it never finishes or ends, and as you progress in the world the story becomes more and more political in it's unfoldings rather than character driven or personal or emotional. chains of promathia had the best story component by far, but again incomplete which is such a shame this had much more potential and is a lot of fun, though i guess ultimately a waste of time as it, again, won't end

12 the most fun to be had in a ff but unfortunately the story is hardly existent. the villain isn't even announced until just before the end battle and after that all you did was inadvertently save the world. highly political in the messages and story development which started to show in 10-2 and developed haphazardly in 11 and fell flat here. but the pacing and gameplay of the game is so fantastic it really is a shame they didn't take that extra attention to plot

13 the most story with the least said in a game ever. story is highly ensemble and character driven like kingdom hearts franchise without the cheese or sappiness. plays like an anime movie that's 50 hours to watch. and the gameplay is fun the seamlessness of the cutscenes and gameplay is where the real value is. which is remarkable. unfortunately, the characters don't feel special. their pain isn't relatable and it's hard to care about their growth and adventure. it's like you're watching the story rather than being involved in it and need to play to discover the next secret, it's like the game just happens for you rather than you unlocking it on your own, hardly rewarding and often boring, but technically amazing such a unique experience it's worth one go at it, but the real gameplay happens when you go for the missions at the end to seek and destroy the really hard bosses, but by then it's too late

Tactics the first real introduction that political storylines are something final fantasy creators care about. and in this setting it's a beautiful and powerful story that makes a lot of bold statements about our political nature and should be commended for it's progressive style on how it shares it's great story. but unlike the other weaker politically plot driven that final fantasies seemed to have adopted more and more of in recent games it fits here, i mean it is tactics. the lack of characters to care about hurts this one but it's tactics not a full rpg so it's forgivable. what's 12's excuse?

tactics advance was fun but if it weren't for the decent story as far as gameboy titles go i wouldn't have finished it

tactics a2 was so shitty in pacing and story that if it weren't for playing every other ff game i would have quit it sooner than later

VI by far.

FF7, followed closely by FFX

is there a difference between any of them?!?!?! I could've sworn it was "Mainly male hero falls in love and then saves the world!" with a couple of exceptions where the protagonist was female that goes on to save the world while there was a love affair as a side with other characters! :p

VI plot was amazing. Made you care about every character. IMO, no Final Fantasy before or after it managed to do that.

FF9 for me. It's by far my favorite Final Fantasy story and overall game. Vivi FTW!!

lol That's 80% of RPG's. Even Dragon Age has the aspect if you want to go that route.
