Forums - Gaming - What's most overrated game of all time?

I forgot about GTA4,I´ve been told by my friends that it sucked.

PS:GH is not overrated the first three rocked after that thanks to activision and their greedy ambitions the franchise went downhill.

Final Fantasy VII (Huge dissapointment)
GTA IV (Too many people says so)
Halo 3 (There are better shooters)

So many votes for Halo, Halo 3 from people who dont have a 360 and have probably never played it in any depth, if at all..... so sad.

Get over it... It is a huge selling series for a reason, not because of hype, not because we are all sheep, becuase it is an extremely well put together piece of software.

I'm a fan of shooters since Wolfstein, and when Halo came up i rented an Xbox just to play it, i thought it was a good shooter, enough to get it on PC later, then Halo 2 came up, i did the same thing, i liked it better than the 1st, so i got it too on PC later...

When Halo 3 launched, i borrowed a friend's 360 (part of the arrangement that we have), to play it, and i actually enojoyed Halo 2 better... I still get together with some friends to play Halo 3 multiplayer, it's fun, if it comes to PC, i'll get it...

The thing is, i thought that all 3 were just good, enough to own them (i luvvvv shooters), but not enough to praise them like the greatest thing since slice bread (slice bread??? WTF???)...

Hey, if it sells like crack, cool, that's because 1. Tons and tons of marketing, 2. It's a good series; but the praise it gets is insane when they're better shooters out there... That's why i think the game is overrated, it's not bad, it's good, it's just not that great...

harvest moon for the wii.. no one seems to talk about it on here or rate it very high i dont know why it was a good game ;___;

prediction: wii to sell 150million console by end of 2010

Of the most recent ones i have to say GTAIV. I loved all the other GTA, but this one felt so plain and boring, i couldn't get myself to finish it yet.

As for the classics, my vote has to go to FFVI. Don't get me wrong, i love the game, and to me it has the best OST of every FF game. But after the masterpiece that was FFV, FFVI felt very shallow and uninspired, and if it weren't for Kefka, Celes and Cyan history and character development, then it would have felt plain in the character department.

(also to the poster who said all sonic games are bad, including Sonic 1, 2 and 3...you clearly have no taste in gaming whatsoever.)

Why must we be fanboys and/or ignorant to list it as our most overrated game?
I will never deny it's a well made game. The multiplayer throughout the series has always been fantastic, and the polish is definitely impressive. However, I find the campaign, to put it shortly, tedious and repetitive. The story is standard fare with one of the most generic "heroes" who sports an even more generic name.

To be fair, FPS' nearly always fail in regards to storytelling and avoiding industry cliches, with exceptions like Half-Life and System Shock being a refreshing change, among others.

I don't mean to bash Halo specifically either, I was merely replying to that post. The Gears of War's, Killzone's, Call of Duty's and Resistance's would all fall under the "great/fun multiplayer, cliched and unimpressive single-player" (omitting Gears, as I never found its online to be satisfying). Not that I find the actual gameplay of those games to be particularly distasteful, just that they are, as the saying goes, "a dime a dozen".
I'm a very competitive gamer, so I end up buying a lot of them for the multiplayer anyways (),  but they are all massively overrated in that sense and would likely fill my list.

I have played Halo for 20+ hours and I call it overrated.  I am good at the game, but not good enough to compete with the people who have played it for 400+ hours.

"Get over it... It is a huge selling series for a reason, not because of hype, not because we are all sheep, becuase it is an extremely well put together piece of software."

It sold well for a reason, and that reason is that it is easily accessable to the majority of XBOX 360 users.  You will find that the best selling software is not always the best software.

To summarize, Halo is a good game.  It's just that there are better FPS games out there.  Most of them on the PC.

Halo franchise , any FPS on pc can kick its ass, but since it was the first one on console with succesful multiplayer it got treated as if it was send from heaven when CS, HL, CoD and TF2 are like a million times better

"The first one on console with successful multiplayer"!?? Hello??  Remember a little game called Goldeneye??

Unless you mean online multiplayer, but that wasn't in the original Halo, was it?
