It's difficult to select just one but GTA4, Halo 3 and the Ocarina of Time are among the most overrated of all.

This game split the series in two and took away the identity that the series once had. Doesn't have Zelda feeling at all, the sailing, island-based overworld and the cartoony graphics doesn't sound Zelda-ish at all. Should have been an independent franchise or Nintendo should drop the Zelda name from it, the same way Activision did with Modern Warfare 2. Just a bit of a friendly argument, nothing personal.

The graphics were basically A Link to the Past in 3D, so it's not like the game essentially deviated from the series' roots.

Also, I don't really think there ever was a point in the series when the story was actually taken seriously, if there was the characters would have been more fleshed out and there would have been way more backstory behind everything. I think Majora's Mask was the closest Nintendo ever came to writing a decent story, but it's been years since I played the game, so forgive me if I'm wrong on that.

I definatly agree about the sailing and the island based world, but I think the game would have been good if it played like the N64 games with the land exploring and everything and had maybe 90% less sailing. At least I would have preferred it that way, realistic graphics or toon graphics that'd be the creator's choice.

And in a way, I think Nintendo actually did series into two different versions. Minish Cap was released on the GBA, Phantom Hourglass was released on the DS, Spirit Tracks is being made for the DS. It seems like Toon Link has been banished to the handhelds overall and if we ever see Toon Link on the big screen in his own game, it would be titled New Play Control: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
