Forums - Nintendo - Wii: A Solution To Why Shovelware Outsells Core

Also its no different then the PS2, there was so much shovelware on PS2 it is the primary reason I abandoned my PS2.

I will even admit that my 360 has the xbox live Arcade which is comprised of primarily shovelware with a few gems here and there. But at least I can play with the demo version for a little while before dropping my MS points.

This is a faulty argument from the get go. Retailers keep reordering Carnival Games because it keeps selling. A nice steady dependable amount month in, month out. Metroid Prime no longer sells so they don't bother to reorder it when it sells out - why would they?

'Core' type games tend to only sell for the first two months and then are effectively dead. 'Casual' games tend to sell consistantly for months and months.

The exception here is shovelware. Shovelware doesn't sell at all. So it sits and sits on shelves under ultimately it gets put in the bargain bin and continually discounted until someone finally takes it off the stores hands. This DOES suck up shelf space that could better goto House of the Dead or Hanna Montana. So stores don't like it either.

Carnival Games IS shovelware.

I think shovelware is subjective, cause Stormrise has a lower metacritic then Carnival games, and I don't think Sega intended for Stormrise to be shovelware...

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

Why do you think it's sold 3m+?  Good word of mouth.   People are recommending it to their friends.  So for them it's not shovelware.   Unfortunately, there are far worse games than Carnival Games  (anything by  Data Design for example) but fortunately they don't sell.

Eventually the Wii's library, Just like PS2's will balance out. Longevity is the great equalizer. I think if someone does a metacritic rating, albeit a metacritic maybe a bad example, but I bet my sig, you will notice that the Wii's Metacritic scores from risen over the last few years.

The PS2 got good games because it was the market leader and it still could handle the games its compitition got. The Wii can't handle HD games.....

The Wii's library will be a wasteland of garbage games with a few gems at the top. You remember the old saying "its like casting pearls before swine". That statment has never been more truthful.

Don't forget High Voltage! Unfortunately, their games actually do sell sometimes.

If everyone started eating dirt, and loved it , it would still be dirt.

@ BOLD: Aww man, you were making sensing before you said this.

Games like COD:WaW selling on Wii says other wise. As stated by ALOT of 3rd party publishers. You can't CONTINUE you ignore the elephant in the room. =D

And you are nuts if you think the Wii version of COD WAW is the same as the PS3 and 360 version.
