Forums - Sony - PSP 2 coming pre-Christmas will be an iPhone beater

The title of the article is stupid, no slam at you, Rohail, since you simply posted it from the source, but the iphone has sold an incredible amount of hardware and software (at east dlc, even if free) in a very short time, and given Apple alot of success...so by calling this next handheld an "Iphone beater" are you saying it's going to beat the new iphone (due in June) in capabilities...or profits...or sales...? Beater in what sense...fanboyism, and I doubt that, since the apple mob is as strong as it gets.

No UMD= fail.
They can switch to PSN for new games but they must keep UMD drive for keeping BC with current titles. Otherwise most people will not buy it.

I'll buy it, I remember pre-ordering my PSP back in what, 2005? I loved it. Sometimes backwards compatability isn't always the best idea. The DS will become outdated eventually, along with the carts. I personally thought the UMD's were a bad choice for the original PSP at first, but now looking at it, it was very smart. Now, with no UMD in the new PSP2, I'm very curious as to how they'll do it. I'm assuming PSN.

I assume Sony will state, "Backwards compatibility is last gen," like when they said the same thing with rumble.

You all don't think they'll make the older games available on PSN, achieving backwards compatibility that way?

Sony can't beat Apple at anything. Apple is seen as an innovative out side the box looking company that's able to sell under powered $2000 laptops as if they were hot cakes. Not to mention $200 mp3 players as if they were candy. Sony can't do that any better than toshiba or samsung. There just "another" electronics company. Nothing special. Like Apple ,Nintendo's able to announce a new DS with a camera and sell a million in a single week of there 5 year old hanheld in the middle of April. Could Sony ever generate that kind of buzz? NO WAY! There better off not trying.

in my opinion there shouldnt even be a talk abt competition between iphone n psp...unless the psp can make calls!!!!!

how is Sony gonan verify you owned the games? or do you imply that consumers have to pay again to download the PSP game from PSN?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

its not happening. Sony have just launched Resistance: Retribution and are just about to launch LittleBigPlanet and Motorstorm for the PSP, there is no way they are then going to abandon the system.

UMD will stay, so either they've not mentioned it or they don't know about it.

everything it's a iphone beater.

I hope this is true, but if it doesn't have BC it would deter me from buying it unless it had some kickass games coming to it.

heres some more info aswell good to hear about the 2 sticks maybe the next version will also have 2 triggers on each side that would be nice to see on a handheld

Rumors pertaining to the PSP2 (sometimes called PSP-4000) seem to be getting wilder and more exciting as the days go by. First, we heard about the UMD drive's removal and the addition of sliding screens, but now it's all touch screens (that slide) and dual analog nubs. According to PocketGamer, who apparently spoke with a developer working on the new hardware (and not Dave Perry), all of these new features will be available later this year when the PSP2 ships sometime before Christmas.

If we're following Sony's usual timeline of events, we'll see the new hardware unveiled at E3 -- just like the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 in the previous years.

Why does launching a umd-less iteration = abandon the system? Maybe what sony is making is like the PSPi or something. If this retains the umd drive, which i highly doubt, you can count me out.
