Forums - Gaming - Why Wii Hate?

Maybe this is something that has been discussed before, but I figured at least from a few forums I've visited (including this one, to a lesser extent) it is still a relevant question to ask. Some posters seem to have a genuine disgust for the system. They are pissed off at the massive success the system has become, and I've seen numerous posters grasp at straws that are largely irrelevant and/or ridiculous. They constantly wish for games to sell badly, as if that will justify their strongly held beliefs of the systems "wackness."

I mean the list goes on and on, the goal posts shifting, the tired arguments of "no games" or more specifically "no third party games." I've read the same old posts in different threads that its not even worth providing the counter arguments because then I'll sound like a broken record. I don't think this is exclusive to myself, though. But you will rarely if at all, see me post in threads I have nothing to contribute to. In other words, I won't post in a PS3 thread or 360 thread just to add some fanboy spin. But I notice more and more in threads concerning the Wii exclusively, that some of the counter arguments are just a bunch of nonsense, an excuse to vent some undying hate for the system.

I by no means am trying to say that "if you have nothing nice to say don't say nothing at all." These are forums, after all. But critiques are different from "trolling" I suppose my question to all would be why is there so much Wii hate still permeating the forum? What is it about the system that drives you to wish for its failure? Did the system talk about your momma?

I have my own beliefs on why this is the case, but I'd like to hear other perspectives on the matter. I'd even like those who actually do hate the Wii to give a coherent reason as to why that is so.

Personally, I am a fan of the industry.  Like many of you, I grew up with videogames. I am glad the Wii is the success it is mainly because it is ensuring growth for our industry. I wish gaming companies are able to continue making games that a variety of people can enjoy. I do not take any satisfaction when games on any platform "flop." I feel it is hypocritical for some to call themselves gamers while hoping for a console to fail (any system, not just the Wii).  I am not trying to make anyone change their opinion of the system, but rather understand that love it or hate it, the Wii is a legitimate system, that is providing the industry we love an alternative route so the industry can continue to prosper.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

It is common that some people will automatically hate something successful. It's a part of human nature.

Formação do indíviduo, transformação da sociedade.

I don't hate the Wii, I just feel it panders to the lowest common denominator. I feel that games can be very intelligent, atmospheric, and engaging. Unfortunately those games are in short supply on the Wii. Most of the people who flock to the wii aren't my kind of gamers or at least I can have the same talks about it.

The fact that it makes more money than god only becomes an issue for me when developers throw all their collective energy making poorly designed games that make money. Whats the point of making a beautiful intellectually engaging ps3 game for 3 million and make 10 million (figures all made up) when you can make a 500k game and 8 million.

Yes I am a fan of the Playstation 3, but I am an even bigger fan of intelligent and rational dialog. (If you are up for an intelligent exchange of ideas, you are more than welcome to add me as a friend)

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future......NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

(haven't been playing much since I am broke)

It's almost like people hate every system and that every system is bashed.

No, no...I wouldn't want to jump to any wild conclusions. That couldn't be possible!

TheStrike, So the issue for you is that devs start allocating more resources towards the Wii, at the expense of the other consoles..Fair enough, but what if those resources went towards making intelligent, atmospheric, and engaging titles for the system you say is in short supply of?

Im telling Khuutie on you! When he gets here, you better be nice because hes going to write 5 pages about why you're wrong... SO THERE!!!

Jokes aside: I think theres some negative spin involved with the Wii, but also theres a sense that people want to make the system comparable when measuring by their own set of values. I.E does the system sell the games they want to play?

Tease.

NOooOOOo...NOOOoooo!
