Forums - Nintendo - Anyone have a explaination for the Zelda Timeline.

There's only a few games with an established order. I think the two timeline thing is suggested pretty strongly.

The thing to remember is, that it's the "legend" of Zelda, so to some extent some of the games are pretty much the same story with some elements changed, as if it's one legend retold through time. I sort of think that's a cop-out and uninteresting, but that seems to be the way that Nintendo is going with the litany of Zelda games with no real place in any sort of timeline over the last 10 years.

This is basically where I stand on this. I find it no different than Prince of Persia and it's many reincarnations, except that Zelda continuations can appear out of order and after many years. Some games are directly connected. Some aren't. I do not believe they all formulate a branching timeline.

This is where I stand. I don't hold that there's any actual timeline. I used to, until I threw up my hands and walked away from the discussion.

It seems to me that many games are retellings of the same story - Twilight Princess being a retelling of the conflict in Ocarina of Time, for instance. All the stories comee down to Ganondorf, Link, and Zelda.

I stopped trying to work everything into a neat order when I realized it did nothing to enhance my experience of the games.

Ocarina of Time is actually first in the timeline then split into two timelines

^ it was confirmed 4 sword series happened centuries b4 Oot

That can't be true because Ganon was there.

At any rate I prefer to go with the legend idea that it's all the same story told in slightly different ways. All the games are pretty much the same story or a continuation of one of the stories. That is to say, none of the events actually happened on any official timeline, they're just variations of the same story. The Continuous Zelda Universe is not the universe you play the games in, but rather the universe where these stories are told.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

A Koopa's Revenge II gameplay video

the legend of zelda might be arguably the most debated time line. only shigeru miyamoto could explain this one because in OOT Link's mother dies after giving birth. in LTTP Link lives withhis uncle. so its pretty confusing to figure out Link's origins and bloodline. i do know from the story line that this is an order OOT--->MM---->Wind Waker
