As the thread title suggest, I've started to wonder if it is actually possible to be unbiased when it comes to judging consoles anymore.  In the old days of gaming we always had our favourite gaming machines and the playground banter would show the bias we had, but back then gaming hardware was relatively expensive so the opportunity to have more than one platform was significantly less for many.  In the modern day now there is a growing contigent of people who can afford more than one platform, you would expect these people could be relatively unbiased as they must like them enough to buy them but this appears to not be the case.

Many people use the internet to find out information on new releases and generally discuss their gaming habits.  What you always seem to find though with sites you visit is they're weighted more in favour of some platforms than others.  This isn't a criticism as it would be impossible to balance the fanbase out evenly, particularly when you consider some platforms have a larger userbase or a demographic which are more likely to post online.

I bought my platforms in the following order DS, Wii, 360, PS3.  For me as I spent more time in gaming forums some sections of fans would irritate me so I naturally stayed clear of such discussions.  This has lead to me reading more 360 and Wii fans information than the PS3 and has skewed my opinions more in favour of those two more than the PS3.  This isn't a dig at the PS3 as my opinion is just that, its a personal prejudice I've imparted upon myself through skewed research.  The problem is that once you have had your opinion skewed in favour of one console more than another its very hard to always be objective after that. 

While I do like my PS3, the simple fact is I spend more time on the 360 and reading information on it so despite not being biased towards the PS3 because I bought one, I struggle to look at things from the wider picture sometimes.  I know multiplatform owners will naturally always have a preferred system but does anyone else consider the online discussions we read have had a detrimental effect on occasion to us being impartial?

I agree with you fully. In fact, what happened to you is pretty much exactly what happened to me.

It is possible. Hate everything and the console wars stop being so biased. Of course I get called a fanboy everytime I give an honest opinion about a game, but that is a small price to pay for impartiality.

It's very difficult to be human without being biased, i would think. You like what you like, and dislike what you dislike, and often its not for a tangible (i.e. good) reason. That's just how these things go.
