How the hell can a graph represent corruption? Afterall, most of it is done behind closed doors. You know, that lobbying "industry" which is worth $1.5bn a year in the states (a whole load of it comes from British firms aswell, which is funny). |
Who Fredrick 3?
He wasn't even ruler for a year.
The guy before him was actually quite unpopular with the people wanting a liberal democracy.
As for the corruption index... a not for profit group in germany measures it.
Also compared to dictators who hoard all the wealth....

Ah wait. I bet your talking about Fredrick 2.
Who was actually quite brutal. Which is the problem with "enlightened dictators".
As it's called. They're only as enlightened as it suits them to be.

Putin. Raised living standards a lot. I guess you'd call him a dictator? Though in reality he isn't.
| SamuelRSmith said: ^Well, I don't agree with the idea of having democracies and non-democracies, I'd say that there are varying levels of democracy - I mean, look at two of the "freeist" countries in the world - the US and the UK. The US is renown for its corruption, and the UK has a Monarch and an unelected upper chamber (though there power dwindles with every decade that passes)! You also seem to be of the view that democracy = good, dictatorship = bad. Not all dictators are evil, and not all democratically-elected leaders are good (though, of course, there is a strong correlation). I personally think that different countries should get different veteoing powers on different matters. Some countries SE Asia may want something to happen, but a bordering country might have a negative effect from it. This issue doesn't concern any of the major powers, but some of the smaller countries might have benefited from the veto power, instead. Anyway, that wasn't my beef with the UN, mine is that the institution is so large that it is out of touch with the real world, and it can't do anything forceful because it has to keep all members happy (like when there's a war on, instead of sending in troops to defend the good guys, they just do non-biased operations that don't have the biggest of effects). |
The monarch is very unelected has also is the House of Lords. In a true democracy people would get to vote on every issue that affects them. Would the UK have gone to war if the british people had a vote? Would U.S bankers been bailed out if the american people had a vote?
At least in the USA you have freedom of Speech. Here in the UK its a offensive to say anything now..... you can't talk openley about your views on religion, colour, the war, homosexuality in public anymore without it causing offend to someone and being arrested for a public order offence.
But I do watch FOX NEWS on my sky box and you guys in america can say anything you want it seems. They were talking about immigration on one show and the crap they came out with....

...Europe as the next super power would be a disaster for the developing world. Why? because they dont play fair, are protectionist and suffer from extreme lecture syndrome. Just google "EPA Controversy". Europe was once a super power, it had an absolute blast...but for Asia, Africa and Latin America that was one of the worst moments in history...India or China=yes, Europe=hell f@#king no!
E.g. Europe subsides its farmers. Obviously a good thing. But if any African nation had the balls to subsidise its farmers the IMF would cut its funding, sanctions would be slapped on it and it would be called a rouge state -_- I remember when China helped build a rail system in SA and the Europeans where mega pissed . When a damn was supposed to be built to supply enough power for a large proportion of the continent Europe came on and said "its not feasable, not a PRIORITY and other euroish shit". And the way Europe worked overtime to discredit China before and after the olympics was mega cheap. Europe isnt open minded enough to lead a multi cultured (and multi coloured) world. Reason why people in third world countries like China is because China actually RESPECTS people. Nope not cheap PR stuff but the real deal. China doesnt lecture, China doesnt force its opinions, China doesnt blackmail with fucking sanctions, China doesnt act like a KNOW IT ALL but Europe is the exact opposite.

Slovenians are like russians, but they hate russians, and they are even angrier. And more russian-like. So I'd give that good odds. Slovenia is going to eat croatia, serbia, bosnia, hungary, romania, moldova, and ukraine, just to kamikaze into russia. |
I can't believe someone actualy mentioned Slovenia here. (that where I'm from)
And most of the people I know like russians. Southern neighbours are different story though :P

Yes, I know the Monarch and Lords are unelected... I said so in the very post you quoted!
Oh, and should the people really be allowed to vote on things that they have no idea about? The Americans/Brits would have rejected a bank bailout because they haven't the faintest clue of economics - they like to think they do, but they don't (and the Conservatives have leaped onto that).
