I would like to get your opinion on the iPhone and its effect on the portable gaming market.

I think if left to its own devices it will be bad for the industry. I don't know about you, but i like a little substance in my portable games, and many of the iPhone games are anything but that.

Also i'm tired of going to Joystiq and having every other article about some lame iPhone game.

I was gonna make a Wii comparison, but that would have been a little low.

The Wii comparison is almost valid.

As with the Wii, the Iphone is expanding the market. The sales of casual games on the Iphone are not subtracting from the sales of core games on other portables. they represent new gamers, or at least gamers that only ever played online flash games and mobile phone games.

The Iphone, like the Wii, is also a place where developers can make up for their losses on the PS360.

The comparison falls apart because the Wii has a lot more core games than the Iphone. Don't get me wrong, the Iphone has a few good ones, some nice racers, a Metal Gear. But they can't compete with the unprecedentedly awesome core lineup of the Wii

Yeah, but the MGS game is a glorified duck hunt game that looks like it was made on the PS1. Duck Hunt was only fun because of the NES Zapper.

I don't think it will effect it too much.

There are some really quality games for the iPhone. And some really really bad games. Just like any platform. Do you feel PC gaming is crap? Because I can name a TON of shovelware for the PC. It's good for the industry. Its promoting different kinds of games. Its already getting extremely popular.

and the iphone uses powerVR chip any nokia samsung smartphone form 2006 + use.

and cpu wise iphone/touch are locked ot 400mhz which isnt a huge jump from 2003 PSP 330mhz.

New iPhone in June.  Expect those specs to increase.

iphone/ipod touch is a joke as a gaming device.I ahve ipod touch and it's all shovelware mini games.

I feel stupid after playing 10 min of most of their games.

iPhone games aren't bad. True, they lack substance, but that isn't what the iPhone gaming platform is for.

As the iPhone sees more and more support and success we will get more games with more substance, but I'm perfectly happy with my cheap few minute games.

There will always be room for small "casual" games and "hardcore" games.
