Right off the top of my head i can name 10 people , neighbours/family who have a nintendo ds and not 1 of them is over the age of 10.I don't know one person over that age who has a ds and i dam sure have never seen 1 33 year old women with a ds except in the ad on the telly where shes on the train with nintendo dogs. But thats just an ad.Maybe you looked into that ad a bit more than you should have

Not a demographic per se, but the market they are going for is one of "entirely distant users", as described by the Blue Ocean Strategy. As such it is more of a tool than the earlier DS's, though everything still has an element of 'play' to it. The camera, the music player, the SD card slot and the downloadable applications all follow this philosophy, notice alot of the early DSiware games are 'non-games'.

well you see, over here, in the united states, a lot of adults have the DS, me, my friends, my friends' girlfriends, their moms, grand parents, and of course kids under 18 as well, it must be different over there.

Translation: "I don't know anyone older than 10 years old with a DS therefore DS owners over the age of 10 don't exist."
Anecdotes, ftw. Your social bubble =/= the entire world.

100% of everyone I know who owns a DS is over the age of 20.
Most of the kids I know own a DS...
I thought the Lite was no longer manudactured for Japan.
3 new colours of DSi released in Japan 20th March. Is the DSi going to plan for Nintendo? Do the users actually want the new features and higher price tag?

Me and my friend own ds therefore, ONLY we own ds.
@demotruck, good analysis. It is exactly like that. This is why I think ds was first popular.
I wonder just how important these will be though now that camera phones are pretty much standard.

Owned haha. Wow it surprises me that someone would defend Ninty on that side but wow. Ownage is the right word.

Bigger screens, lower quality, less intimidating, so it may be appealling to older folks who aren't quite in the demographic for sophisticated phones.
