Forums - Nintendo - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time still blows me away

weird, I've always been a PC gamer but I never had problems playing console games, well besides the inferior FPS control that is dual analog, I'm good with it since I'm never shy about playing video games, but it's still garbage vs mouse and keyboard tbh, Wiimote is the closest thing to it atm.

Urge to replay OOT for atleast the tenth time rising.

Pacman taught people to run around in dark rooms munching on pills while listening to repettive techno music and for that I somewhat idolise him.

I love OoT, and just beat it again recently.

That said, anybody who singles out TP, is most likely an OoT fan who can't stand the fact that Nintendo took OoT and perfected it with TP.

I think that anybody who played TP first and then went back to play OoT afterward, would have a hard time understanding where people get off saying TP sucks.

Achievement is its own reward, pride only obscures.

HATING OPHELIA- Coming soon from Markosia Comics!

I recently replayed it in late 08. I popped in the cartridge and played it the way it is meant to be played - on a 1996 TV with a N64 controller.

A few Pros/Cons.

Pros:

It still has the best soundtrack (although that is heavily challenged by SMG)

It has an amazing story, considering that it is very non story heavy.

It has a fantastic nostalgia feeling.

The "atmosphere" is marvellous.

Cons:

Its graphics and AI are heavily outdated.

Its controls are far from as good as in most Nintendo games from 6th gen and out.

The "gameplay" (I hate that word tbh) isn't as fleshed out as in many later games.

In plain text.

The atmosphere makes me love playing it. I have TONS of memories from the game (first time we played, my entire family (5 people) played and we used over 100 hours, as we were all completely rubbish at games).

On the other hand, it feels a bit... Simplistic. You face your enemies in the same type of combat every time. You lack a lot of options that are implented in later games.

By 2008 standards, it's a good game. It's not awesome or a masterpiece by these standards, but it's still very playable.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Ya I played it again last year. I don't know what you guys think but for me at least it hasn't aged a bit. I love the music.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

And here I am at the opposite end of the Nostalgia Spectrum. I never played Ocarina of Time when it first came out, not having an N64 to play it on. I couldn't get into it when I tried it at a friend's house around 1999. It wasn't until Twilight Princess Wii that I found a 3D Zelda which actually controlled the way I needed it to control for me to enjoy it.

So here I am, the contrarian voice: I don't like Ocarina of Time. It drives me insane with its funky controls and extremely dated style. I can't even play it for more than an hour at a time before I quit out of sheer frustration. But Twilight Princess I've played and won 5 times over, with complete files each time.

Perspective: it makes all the difference in the world.

Wow! The same exact thing happened to me. And I also loved, Doom, Duke Nukem and Quake.

OoT? I didn´t like it. Besides, I loved how Twilight Princess didn't asume I have played all the Zelda Games. TP Princess was my first Zelda and now I consider myself a new fan. I cant wait for the next Wii Zelda. In the meantime, I am gonna hit the post buttom and go play it right now.

This was obviously a stab at me.

My two favourites are LA and OoT. That's followed by WW and MM. Then LttP, AoL, LoZ. The rest I don't rank but have enjoyed. Then, dead last, TP.

TP didn't perfect anything - especially not OoT. If we want to talk about what perfected what, it would be OoT perfecting LttP.

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

I really enjoyed this game, I might play it again soon.

You're making this thread into something it isn't, and at the same time promoting your opinion in the same matter several times. We get you don't like TP, but there's been several threads about Zeldas in general, and there will be more. I suggest you post your comments there, rather than annoy people by going off topic here.

Yes, it's still the greatest game ever. :)
