Forums - Nintendo - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time still blows me away

Same here! Even after all these years the game still amazes me. Everything about the game is practically perfect. I've played a lot of Zelda games, but honesty, for me, no Zelda game comes close to this. They all were great of course.

it's hard to pick out a lot of flaws in any Zelda game besides the one where some people didn't like the all touch play of Phantom Hourglass, the formula just works, Miyamoto is too much of a beast.

And here I am at the opposite end of the Nostalgia Spectrum. I never played Ocarina of Time when it first came out, not having an N64 to play it on. I couldn't get into it when I tried it at a friend's house around 1999. It wasn't until Twilight Princess Wii that I found a 3D Zelda which actually controlled the way I needed it to control for me to enjoy it.

So here I am, the contrarian voice: I don't like Ocarina of Time. It drives me insane with its funky controls and extremely dated style. I can't even play it for more than an hour at a time before I quit out of sheer frustration. But Twilight Princess I've played and won 5 times over, with complete files each time.

Perspective: it makes all the difference in the world.

Oh, Sky Render.

It is all right. Some of us enjoy all the Zelda games for what they are. Your dislike is unusual, but not unheard of! You can still be accepted at Zelda fan dinner parties.

Heh. Blame my peculiar history with gaming. I spent most of the 90s as a PC gamer, most notably of FPS games like Duke Nukem 3D and Quake. Thus I had a standard for aiming controls centered around high precision mouse aiming. Analog stick aiming cannot even come close to that.

That's kind of why Ocarina of Time introduced lock-on targeting, but fair enough.

Lock-on targetting was nice, but remember, I was used to manual aiming. The concept of letting the game aim for me was madness, and still is today. Even in my TP play-throughs, I take 99% of my ranged shots without lock-on. The only time I do use lock-on is when precision is absolutely impossible otherwise.

You must have had a Hell of a problem fighting Keese. TP really would have been a revelation, though, since you could move and aim at the same time.

So I take it that a Wii-ized port of other 3-D Zeldas would be your cup of teea?

Oh hell yes, I HATE fighting Keese in Ocarina. They're easy as pie in TP, just because I can precision-aim easily and target their location relative to my shot. And yes, I suspect I would absolutely adore a New Play Control version of Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, and/or Ocarina of Time.

I just all ten big poes the other night. I still need five heart pieces, fourteen gold skulltulas, and the giant's knife. NEED them. One night I'm sure I'll find the dude who wants the odd potion, and then hopefully everything will fall into place.

I haven't played Ocarina of Time YET(I bought Master Quest off of eBay), but I'm going to get to it after I finish A Link To The Past and Okami Wii(oh God how I love Okami... I don't want it to end.)
