Forums - Nintendo - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time still blows me away

im sure there have been 100s of threads on this game before, but i dont care, heres another one.

brief gaming history: when i was younger i played a few snes games, like DKC and the Lion King at a friends house, and when the 64 came out i begged to get it for christmas, which i did and it came with mario kart. after a couple of months of playing it to death i saved up some money and went out to buy a game. With absolutely no knowledge about any game i just happened to pick up OoT. And after playing it the first time i was completely blown away. i could not believe how good one game could be... and i still cant.

I just played it again for probably the 8th or 9th time and it is still absolutely incredible. Probably has part to do with it being one of my first games, but i feel attached to it somehow, and i am 100% sure i will never have a game i like more then it

It is really indescribable....

The feeling of running out onto hyrule field for the first time.
The awesomeness of playing the bolero of fire and being teleported into a beautiful volcano.
The sadness of seeing Hyrule Castle town destroyed as an adult
The confusion of the water temple
The amazing mixture or graphics, incredible music and fun gameplay of gerudo valley
i could go on for hours....

Everyone should ignore all these new release games and go play ocarina of time.

:)

People are too busy soaking in the mediocrity of TP at the moment to understand what a good Zelda game is.

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

Oh stop it.

OT:

I am still impressed by Ocarina of Time as well, though I feel it has been surpassed by other games in the series since its release.

I downloaded it yesterday (in anticipation to Majoras Mask) and I have to agree with everything you posted. this game is amazing! it had been so long since I played it, I was a little afraid of ruining my memories of its greatness. Thats why I had'nt downloaded it before but after all those years I'm being amazed again. Truly another great addition to my VC library!

Ha, I know what I just said is probably going to cause problems, but I can't stand it when people regard TP as a good Zelda title. I cannot think of one main Zelda title that wasn't better than it in every regard (haven't played PH yet, but I sincerely doubt that game underperformed against TP).

And CDi doesn't count, as Nintendo doesn't acknowledge it :p

Had I was given what I was presented with in the first 3-4 trailers, I'd have been blown away. I have more fun watching the trailers now than I did playing through all of TP.

@shadowjOS- I think TP is "almost" every bit as good as OoT. Its not mediocre at all. I'd rate it 3rd in all the series, behind only OoT and A link to the past, and a very close 3rd at that.

Yeah, I get it, but this topic is not about Twilight Princess. It is about Ocarina of Time.

Totally agree.

From all the Zeldas Ive Ive played so far I honestly dont think its been surpassed. TP waggle got annoying so OoT beat it there alone. None of the handhelds so far have beat it either. (Minish Cap was fucking excellent though)

I think Zelda Wii if done right will surpass it.

I don't know how good TP really is, I just know I was glued to it until the end and the Wii control was amazing, especially when you are shooting stuff and I really liked the game overall because it does feel more epic than OoT and it's a lot bigger even though Link doesn't travel in time =(. OoT also didn't bring the same impact for me as Mario 64 did as a whole so, I don't know, I think it's a good game but the Zelda console games after it were actually better imo, maybe just not the big impact that people had when OoT first came out.

Same here! Even after all these years the game still amazes me. Everything about the game is practically perfect. I've played a lot of Zelda games, but honesty, for me, no Zelda game comes close to this. They all were great of course.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!
