Forums - Nintendo - Article: The Wii's Promising RPG Future - Agree or Disagree?

It's all a load of bullshit, Wii gets one big one which is DQ X and even that one will not release for a LONG time. The HD twins get 1 big game with the PS3 getting another big game and that is it.

DQ IX on DS and flagship games on handhelds is the future, flagship JRPG will release on handhelds. The real kick in the teeth for SE will be when (not if when) Agito outsells FFXIII and Versus, that alone should secure flagship games on handhelds. The popularity of handhelds continue to increase so the next gen of handhelds will get the flagship games. Minimal effort for maximum return.

Rant almost fini, niche and flagship games on handhelds the future and in ways the present as well.

Its a good article which basically states the obvious. I wonder if Monster Hunter 3 will be bigger outside of Japan than the PS2 ones?

Monster Hunter 3 will at best sell 1m lifetime in Japan and no idea about NA and EU, not expecting too much. MH3G on PSP will do lifetime MH3 numbers in a week so....

I fail to see how's that's relevant, or likely, or why it would be a kick in the teeth for SE. Hmmm, their own game outsold their own game; big loss there.

You're using handheld here too interchangeably with DS. A PSP only sidegame is not going to outsell a PS3 AND 360 main series Final Fantasy.

I'm a big handheld gamer, play them as much if not more than consoles, and RPG's are by far my favorite games, but I don't see this trend of main series games manifesting on handhelds becoming too widespread.

Back to the article: Hooray, more Wii RPGs! I already have too many DS RPGs alone to possibly attempt to play!

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

I certainly hope it's right.

Not that I can afford the damn things anyway, but...

Well, it seems like japanese developers arent affraid of making a game with PSone-PS2 level of graphics for HD platforms. Disgaea 3 and Atelier Rorona show that some japanese developers do not really believe in the Wii's core audience. It can become a trend for japanese devs.

However, one shouldnt underestimate the Dragon Quest effect, after all. This alone ensures that niche RPGs will be coming to the Wii. It's just questionable whether it will get more of them than PS3.

Atelier isn't PS2 level...

 I think it is.

Muramasa is my most anticipated RPG at the moment.

Bah at Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter. Does anyone actually like these games? Whenever they're brought up in discussion it's always to do with how popular they are in Japan. I've never seen them listed as standouts in the genre.

Hmmm sit down, make yourself a nice cuppa and put your thinking cap on. A PSP game outselling 2 HD console games with each costing at least 10x what the PSP version cost to make, you don't think SE would have a problem with that? I guess great thinking like that is what has kept SE in such a fantastic financial position!

Soriku a new Tales of game seems to be announced every week so that is hardly big, With Graces came a port and a PSP game, FFCC should sell very nicely but again no where near a big game.

Dragon Quest is pretty awesome, yeah.
