Forums - Microsoft - Did Halo 2 spike hardware sales of the original Xbox?

We have to remember, alot of xbox owners had xbox for the original halo, and it is very possible non are upgrading till halo 3 comes out, but i expect around 50-100 % sales boost

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

IMO, I think H3 month will move alot of units...Not just because of H3, but all the other good software such as post-Blue Dragon bumps, ES, and post-pricedrop increases.

Despite the increased price vs. the Xbox in 04, I think H3 will manage to move enough units. A person WILL buy a X360 despite the price for Halo3....We always talk about the hardcore userbase of the MS franchise, and the advantage they have is attaching for one game like Halo. This is similar with what the N64 had with Zelda: OoT and TP for the GC.

IMO, the increase should be greater with H3 vs. H2 in a 4-week period (NPD will count 2 Halo weeks), therefore the increase will be split between Sept and Oct months. The advantage the X360 has is the userbase isn't as large (11m vs. 7m), therefore more will adopt to the X360, since there are fewer users. This is the case with any, and all systems with smaller userbases - a large game is going to help vastly more on a smaller userbase system (BD in Japan, TP on GC, HSG5 on PS3), as it's more noticible, and effects the userbase %-wise higher than.........Lets say NSMB on DS.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

very interesting

It shows Halo 4 will be HUGE!

Holy necromancy, Batman Xbox Man.

The issue is that VGC has no true granularity when it comes to weekly data that far back.

What we DO know is that the Xbox beat out the PS2 for #1 console that month, despite GTA:SA launching the month prior. The Xbox also posted a +350,000 unit increase vs. 2003.

So I'd say that H2 had a major effect on sales, and pushed around 300,000+ consoles in November 2004.

Why so many old threads coming to back to life lately?

I think it had a good bump for its time. But the increase in original xbox sales wasn't that great because by the the time the game came out (and ven though it sold 8 million copies) most people that were going to buy an xbox 1 had already bought one for the system's prior defining games like Halo 1, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell timed exclusive and best version, Dead or Alive and DOA Beach Volleyball, Panzer Dragoon Orta, the best third-party versions of multiplat games, and Kotor.

Athough an old thread. This proves a point when a sequelto a very successful game releases on the same console as the game that preceded it then it doesnt really result in any measurable bump in hardware sales.

Think about that with some of the sequels coming. They may help keep console sales constant, but not result in much measurable bump beyond the first couple of weeks.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

not much since its a sequel to halo which already released on the original xbox.
