Forums - Gaming - Where will the remaining big JRPGs go? An overview.

Am I the only one who thinks Kingdom Hearts will be multi?

I have no idea where Suikoden is going, but if it goes PS3 I will buy one just for the next Suikoden.

I'm guessing the next Persona will go DS or PSP to save Atlus some cash.

It's just that simple.

The Wii is bad at selling non-nintendo core games in Japan though, perhaps the situation will change with the Monster Hunter games, but...

I think this is a bit overblown.

1) There are no 3rd party core games with comparable budget as the big PS3/360 ones
2) There are hardly any main games of big series on Wii
3) The 2nd and 3rd best sold third party games so far in Japan are on Wii
4) Symphonia 2 sold very well, 250k, while it's a spin-off
5) Fatal Frame 4 sold more than any previous Fatal Frame

VGC has it at 216k.  Also the original Tales of Symphonia was able to sell 314k on the Gamecube, and another 390k on the PS2.

I think DQS sold BECAUSE it was an on rails spin-off. Games that use the waggle sell better on the Wii.

first of all Disgaea 3 is 2d srpg that was probably a ported ps2 game. SMT games are much more "complicated" - i mean thea are all in 3d and very polished compared to Disgaea series(at least console games, besides they already have most models, scripts, engines and textures for Disgaea since those games don't change in that department much unlike SMT games) and Atlus would probably want to make a huge jump from last gen graphics if they would consider putting SMT game on ps360 and this costs a LOT(after all development costs are 4-5 times higher compared to wii for small company like atlus that IS a huge deal) while at the same time they can make with ps2-game budget a full fledget wii title.

You are making assumption about what Atlus would "want" to do.  You have no idea what kind of graphics they want for their next Persona title.  So tell me, if they kept graphics largely the same as they are now (which I can tell you as a Persona fan I would be perfectly fine with) then where is all this money going to?

If they kept the graphics mainly the same, they can always do a PS2 and Wii game and sell more than on the HD consoles.

Some developers grow a fanbase and stick with it.  Now they may move or they may not, but it is by no means a done deal as some seem to believe.

Not every game is going to come to the Wii, as much as that may be the most logical outcome in your mind it just isn't going to happen.

Yes, I realize that. But when

1. Atlus are having financial troubles.
2. The Trauma Center games on the Wii have sold well.
3. The reason they haven't moved on to new consoles yet is because they have a solid PS2 fanbase (+ the PS2 userbase in general is high) and low dev costs. And they're supporting the DS a lot, and the PSP has got/is getting decent support as well...

It's hard not to think of it like that.

We are in a recession everyone is having some type of financial problems. However I think its a safe bet that Atlus will stick with the PS in terms of the SMT and Persona franchises but they may create other spin-offs on the Wii as well.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

dragon quest X it's not releasing til the end of the gen though.

suikoden its konami if not ps3 exclusive multiplatfrom.

if atlus moves HD i doubt it will multi

as for kh.

KH Team its working now on versus a PS3 exclusive also. so they don't have wii engine atm.

and the first 2 were on the ps2.

and for persona i think it will go psp, i think persona psp port its a test to see if they have user base there.

na, this generation is far from over, if anybody is gonna bring out a new console, it'd only be MS atm, though I doubt they are that stupid to do it anytime soon since they are doing pretty well.

its at least 2 years away 6 year in the 360 life, DQ 9 it have to be even released in japan!, the localization will not be here until 6 months later.

by the time FF13, Versus already hit dragon quest X will get here later.

@soriku, SO was made for the 360 because the engine was ready for 360 due infinity  undiscovery.

and maybe microsoft paying for timed exclusivity, and have good chance to be ported.

this is crystal tools.

they got all the sources made for versus now, even the game it's action JRPG, with physics , textures and particles effects already in the works.

Jo, you do realize that the White Engine/Crystal Tools works with the Wii too, right? That engine already exists.

Soriku said:
So? What's your point? The first two on the PS2 are completely irrelevant if you're gonna argue about it going to PS3.

I don't get the logic behind "Since these devs made this game with this engine then they will probably make another game for the same system" - it doesn't always go that way. And if you're talking about easiness, the Wii would still be easier to develop for regardless.

well it happen to star ocean 4 and i am just saying it another + point, they made 360 (illogical) exclusive because infinity undiscovery engine was already made and worked well with the 360 even if they have the lowest market share for the console.

with crystal tool, it was a ps3 then ported over. and also they are working Versus an action JRPG, on the same console.

actually versus its kh without disney. even the music is made my yoko shimomura

its easy to develop to the wii if you don't push much from it but it that was the case they would make the game for the psp or the DS which have bigger userbases in japan.
