Forums - Gaming - Where will the remaining big JRPGs go? An overview.

Nintendo and Sony consoles - that's what the Japanese market likes. The other competitor tried really hard. Lets see how long they will keep trying.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

I would put "cheaper to develop for" as a plus for the wii games. Specifically for Shin Megami.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Nice OP but KH3 is wrong wrong wrong! You will not be seeing that until the next iteration of consoles release of that I am certain.

I'd say that putting Tales into "big" titles is rather questionable considering sales and how many of them made it to Europe (while SO, LO, personas are worldwide).

IMHO
Kingdom Hearts 3 will go to Wii in the end - it seems like audience for it is there.
Suikoden will probably be X360/PS3
while Atlus will ignore all stationary machines and release on PSP/DS all their stuff.

My only quibble here is that I don't know if Vesperia should rank that high in terms of bigness.

Agreed.

Haters.

Vesperia has been outsold by Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and Dawn of the New World, off the top of my head. It's one thing to be a very good game, it's another thing altogether to be "big", even if you are part of an established franchise.

@ Khuutra

My bad i was talking to Seraphic_Sixaxis. His a hardcore ToV hater . I understood what you meant and i understood what Seraphic_Sixaxis meant by agreeing with you. ToV has not sold a lot yet but wait until it comes out in Europe and on the PS3 to make a final judgement.

On the one hand I think you're right, but on the other I don't think the shareholders will be happy to see SE wastes its third biggest franchise for a complete generation, not only missing out on revenue but also decrease the worth of the series.

And stop that "Tales shouldn't be under the big games" remarks. All series that have a game that sold more than a million last gen is big in this list. Symhonia sold a million and so did Crystal Chronicles, so that's why they're in that category. Nothing special.

The avarage Valkyrie Profile game sells more than the avarage Shin Megami Tensei or Suikoden title, so what kind of big are we talking about?

Next Level 5 RPG or next- Tri-Ace RPG are also good one's.

That's fair! Completely fair. But on that same note, shouldn't Dawn of the New World be under Big Names, too?
