Officials from regular UK chart compilers Chart-Track have revealed, via British trade paper MCV, that Xbox 360 sales increased by 260 percent in the week following the recent price cut and introduction of the Xbox 360 Elite, with sales dropping by only 20 percent from there the following week.

With a lack of weekly or monthly data for comparison, the relative performance of each format is still difficult to judge. Sales of the Xbox 360 are likely to have been lower in recent months in anticipation of the price cuts and Xbox 360 Elite launch.

One thing I'm not sure of is if they mean to say 360 sales were 2.6 times the week prior, or 3.6 times. "Increased by 260%" technically means 360% overall of prior weeks sales. However, I suspect they actually mean 260% (160% increase) 

Do you remember a short while back when Chart Track claimed the PS3 was selling X percentage more than the 360 and its overall sales increased like 300% or something. The relative amounts don't matter -- absolutes do. And you have zero absolutes. Consider that the price drop was expected and sales will drop significantly in anticipating of the price drop.

So while we know sales were wretched in the UK for the 360 before the price drop, we'll have to wait until VGChartz or someone provides solid numbers in the UK to see what it really means.

Price cut, Elite launch cause 260 per cent surge for Xbox

Chart-Track has released new statistics which show a 260 per cent week-on-week increase in UK sales for Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the UK - while the PSP has suffered its worst week of sales since launch.

As reported by MCV, the change in fortunes for both machines are down to hardware line-up changes.

In Xbox 360's case the sales spike coincided with the introduction of the new Elite model, and a price reduction for the existing Premium and Core versions.

Strong sales continued into a second week, falling by only 20 per cent.

The blame for the crash in PSP sales is attributed to retailers and consumers anticipating the imminent launch of the new Slim and Lite model of the handheld on September 14.

ChartTrack declined to supply specific sales figures for either Xbox 360 or PSP.

Chart Track doesn't claim anything.. it's like NPD, they collect the data and then sell it to it's customers. It was an article using Chart Track numbers saying that since the PS3 launch it had outsold the 360 by x amount.

Back on original topic - Now will this continue??

Will the 360 stabilize at 15k/week in the UK??, or really shouldn't it increase into the 20k with Halo 3 coming, and even more as it gets closer to xmas?

Also, to compare to the last holiday season, the 360 didn't hit 10k before the start of November.. so overall things are looking positive for Microsoft.

Side note: Ace Combat 6 is getting hyped in Japan... Will probably sell better then Halo 3 in Japan.
