Why would Japanese developers choose to continue to heavily support the 360 with new exclusives in Japan?

    To see what is going to occur in the future, you have to do is look at circumstances in the past and present and  see how they will affect what will happen in the future.

     While the 360 has failed to really take off in Japan only having sold 1 million units in a little over 3 years, the PS3 has sold over three million consoles there in a little over two years and for much of this year has been duking it out with the supposably invulnerable Wii and been very close, ahead or tied with Wii for almost the first three months of 2009.

     Now on the horizon for the PS3 in Japan is Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy XIII (both of which I expect to see released in December 2009), and Final Fantasy Versus XIII (and probably new games from Hideo Kojima and Team ICO all headed exclusively to the PS3 in Japan before the end of 2010.

     Judging from past performances of games in the Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy series in Japan on past Sony consoles, these three games will have the cumulative effect of rapidly doubling the size of the PS3's install base in Japan (while the 360 for its part has nothing comparable on the way and games that were once thought to have been able to spur 360 sales in that country like Star Ocean, Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, and Tales of Vesperia have failed to do so).

     When a console in one region has five to seven times the install base of another console you very rarely see increased game development for the console with the smaller install base especially when past big titles on the console with the lower install base haven't shown that they will sell all they well to begin with.

     So, in the coming months, do you expect to see the 360 continue to have the same support from Japanese developers that it received in 2008 when it was being referred to as "this console gen's console of choice for JRPG games, " and if so why do you think Japanese developers would give the same support to 360 games in their country that they have been doing over the past year when they haven't sold that well and the PS3 will likely have an install base seven times as large as the 360's in Japan following the release of Final Fantasy Versus XIII?

Maybe no profit is being made on 360 games in Japan, and in NA the PS3 is making software profit.....I dunno.

It still too early to call this, 360 has had a lot of Japanese support but with mediocre results. It seems like they might be getting there hands dirty with PS3 now if the results are good, i expect loads more support for PS3 loads less for 360.

most Japanese devs are supporting the 360 because 360 sells software in the west, they know very well that 360 cant sell as much as the PS3 in japan but japan is just small market compared to Americas and Europe were 360 sells on par with the PS3.
