Earlier this year, Sony revealed and demoed 3D technology running on the PlayStation 3 with three separate titles (MotorStorm, WipEout HD, and GT5 Prologue). According to SCEE President David Reeves, the "PlayStation 3 is a link to 3D," adding even more value to the system.

"PS3 is a link to 3D as it is to HD and flatscreen TVs, which is why three HD games were shown at CES. You’re also going to find a number of 3D films coming out in Aug/Sept. But is there convergence in 3D technology – is there confidence? I don’t see it. So we may dip our toe in the water, not this year but possibly next," said Reeves.

Reeves is right. There may not be a large demand for 3D just yet, but with Hollywood releasing more and more 3D-ready films (Coraline, Monsters vs. Aliens) and even television slowly accepting 3D-ready broadcasts (Superbowl), it might not be long until the market shifts and 3D will become popular for console gaming.

well ? whers the updates allowing for us to use motorstorm wipeout hd and prologue in 3d ?.. Also we would need to get the glasses.. but that's just a minor thing.

I can't beleive I'm saying this, but if they're going to do 3D games they're going to need to make some actual glasses and not just a cheap thing......a peripheral that's going to cost even more money probably around 20 bucks :(

And i of course would get them cause i will probably crush some damn cheap things.

Sounds cool. Not something I'm too hyped about but I'll give it a shot when something like this is available on PS3

probably do the pro X or something, but nowadays people are doing amber-blue . You can still see color that way on screens cause the glasses look only slightly grey tinted.

It's pretty exciting. :P

I'll be sure to have a bucket ready when using it.

mayve it'll be included in the 2.7 update and Sony will release the glasses at E3
