On topic: I don't hate religion. I just don't believe in a god. I get into debates about it sure and I get a bit riled up when things get a bit heated, but generally speaking I am Ok. I have many religious friends and family members.

I know exactly what riles me up though in a heavy debate about god. Religious theories tend to be backwards in the way they are formed as opposed to the way any other theories are formed. I often find that religious theories tend to start with the theory and look for evidence to back it up, disregarding evidence that doesn't. Where as most theories start off as a hypothesis, evidence is gathered. If the evidence does not conform to the hypothesis then a new theory has to be developed and if the evidence agrees with the hypothesis then it is likely your theory works out.

I just hard to take an argument like thats seriously.

Oh and what I mentioned in the other thread too, Atheists are always asked to back up their reasons and evidence for not believing in god. But asking someone the same question the opposite way round "what are your reasons and evidence for believing in YOUR god specifically" tends to be frowned upon.

But apart from that I am a nice guy, trust me lol

I'd be surprised if that's the main reason that atheists dislike religion. frankly because it's stupid.

Being an atheist i dislike religions because of their irrational teacgings that have nothing in common with reason. The pope says don't use condoms because you'll be damned. well that equals a slow painful death for many africans because of the HIV virus and aids. Christianity has a lot on it's conciense since it represents just how the opressed become the opressors yet i have never heard the Pope say that past doing were a mistake.

A girl in Iran was lately beaten to death by her own brother because she was pregnant with a man whom she had not wed. the brother? he recieved a ciil recommendation from the government and was not even tried simply because he acted the way than their Koran guides them to. Even if such laws are not written in the actual Koran it doesn't matter.

Because of religious differences between he indu and the pakistani a once great country that lived in harmony was suddenly thown into turmoil and till this day now the two countries see each others as foes rather than anything else.

What do these three situations show? that moreoften than not, religion leads to irrational behaviours. Even more, when you have to live in a very religious country, like Poland, ou have to put up with a lot of crap during your life. I'll give one example from my junior high times:

i didn't go to religion classes (yes, a whole period dedicated to why you should love jesus and leave some money for the church after every mass) since i had already decided by the age of 11 that religion is pointless. The priest that taught those classes decided that he knew better and forced me to attend. he would always ask me to answer some questions that were about how does a exaplotory act of praying look like and what you should say, what was written in this book of the bible etc etc.

My normal answer would be either that i don't know or don't care. And so he would give me a nce fat F on myreport card (even though i wasn't formaly registered for the lessons). Once he asked me a specific question : does my family believe in god? Knowing the answer i relied instantly, No.

So imagine that after i said that, he SOB started badmouthing my family in front of the whole class. You know, saying that my mother is a paigen bitch and other glamourous stuff. Of course he never taught again in my school once i went to the principle with a few witnesses, but till this day i get angry about the situation.

Worst part about this? It's not only me that was taught by such an idiot. Most people my age have very bad memories concerning religion and classes about them.
