Hey, it's ok, the Wii can be considered a toy. I think they're all toys, they're little devices we derive entertainment from. Being of value beyond entertainment does not stop it from being a toy, there are many toys that are of great educational value for example.

There's no shame in playing with a toy even as an adult, that is unless you have a problem with fun.

There we go, you seem to get it.

There are all kinds of Toys. From childrens toys to sex toys. Just because they are toys does not put them in the same catagory of toys.

I think the problem here is that you're allowing your classification of said toy to be determined by its image (for old people and children as opposed to everyone) instead of something intrinsic to the toy itself (which is a video game console, just like the others - only it's for everyone, not just for people who are already gamers).

the xbox 360 is "drving" the market]

yeah keep saying that to yourself MS ;)

If they put the word "HD" before market will most of you nitpickers be happy?

No they wont. This board is turning into a merry-go-round.

Same shit over and over.

Sony & MS consider the Wii a different market. Hell they probably consider it last gen.  I consider my Wii more of a toy than a gaming machine.  I have this wierd feeling that Nintendo is trying to assemble an army of robots (similar to Voltron) to take over the world. Think about that next time you buy another attachment and your Wii starts glowing blue at you in the middle of the night.

Once and for all, we are all very very sorry that the Wii does not get discussed in the PR wars going on.

Why do you consider the Wii just a "toy"? Do you play games on it? That label for such a generation defining console is proposterous IMO. The Wii has garnered in new gamers, put Nintendo back on top, and has changed the way games are played. Yet, it get's ignored by sooo many, this to me is sad to see as a gamer. Fortunately, it IS a gaming machine that pleases the masses, for that, it gets +1 respect from me.

The Wii is a "toy". It shares very little in common with a games console besides displaying an image on a screen.

Hahahaha, trying to stealth edit, huh? I love your original post so much more though, so I fixed it back to the original for ya. =)

My god that statement was gold. Someone make a print out and frame it, please. At least make a demotivational poster out of it.

Good find, LOL.

Whatever make's you sleep at night, Microsoft.

I also think the PS3, 360, my gaming PC etc. are toys. Edit: To the same degree as the Wii.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Read a little more carefully. I said "more of a toy". I understand it is a gaming machine and yes I do play games on it.

What the Wii has done is tapped a market of nolstagic gamers around my age, as well as parents and grandparents both for themselves and their children/grandchildren. The Wii to them is a much less threatning form of entertainment for their 7 year old and the whole family. The Wii is more like a toy as it has hit the same sort of market a board game goes after.

Understand?

One thing that I find funny is all the screaming for hard core Wii games from us actual gamers who own one. There is a chance that Hard Core or M rated games could hurt the Wii. Imagin that mother/grandmother who was going to get a Wii for their 10 year old based on all the cute characters always shown on TV for it. Then imagin a big add campaign showing a burly man cutting other burly men/women in half with a chain saw (through the crotch) right before throwing them into a giant fan and seeing all the splatters of red blood flying into the screen. That could cause mom/grandma to think twice about it being the right toy for their child.

I read ALL you posted, but still highly disagree. Do YOU understand that the Wii is helping the VIDEO GAME market, not just Toys R Us?

Actually no. I think the Wii is hurting the Video game market "as we know it" more than helping it. The Wii could potentially destroy the market "as we know it". Just wait 10 or 15 years when consoles like the Wii are sold next to the sponge bob version of monoply and sorry. It will be back to PC for gaming. It could also repromote the stigma in the media that "Video games are childrens toys". Is that not what gamers have been screaming about getting away from for years?

PS PC gaming would not be a bad thing. I just dont want to lose my option for consoles.

Who stealth edited? Was not me. Please point it out so people don't accuse me of changing my origional thought. (as it appears someone already did above)

You can't be serious......

 Dead serious.

@ Shock, by your logic, all consoles are toys ;). And if you think of a gaming machine as that and then buy one, I can only laugh at you.

"However, Microsoft dismissed the price cut, stating that the future is about the growth of current generation consoles, not older technology."

PS2, Wii and Xbox360 uses DVDs, so whats newer about MS technology then the others? Winning sales against the PS3 doesnt mean neglecting the Wii. I didnt know being in 2nd place really meant being in 1st.

Shock, it was Baggin's post, the last one in my quote. I made it bold for clarification.
