"Nintendo of America marketing boss Reggie Fils-Aime says publishers have to shift a million copies of their Wii titles in order to generate a profit.
Only 16 out of 486 Wii games have hit that figure though, nine of which were Nintendo titles, according to US stat cruncher NPD.
However, Fils-Aime said that the million sales mark 'was a lower threshold than for the other consoles', according to The New York Times.
The Nintendo exec also said that the company's decision to not to make the Wii high-definition capable was influenced by a desire to limit game development costs.
The article suggests that the supposedly booming games industry is in economic 'peril', with the majority of titles across all platforms selling no more than 150,000 copies on average, according to analysts."
