I agree Shu in Blue Dragon is annoying. Atsuma in Enchanted Arms is freaking weird and kinda annoying, jokes are soooooo corny. So again I agree with your rant on main leads in "JRPG's" suck!

some of them suck cause they are cliched heroes, tthe typical good guy, others suck cause trhey try to be badass and fail myserably and in most recent occasions they fail cause they are emo. thats why i like ark from terranigma so much, he truly feels human, not some prefabricated character.

actually most modern JRPG leads cater to americans(exepting some emo leads, as persona characters) it all started with cloud and then there was an explosion of american catered JRPG characters
