Forums - Sony - Backup Utility, HDD upgrade, Resident Evil 5 Game Save

I'm about to upgrade my hard drive.

I don't have a spare hard drive to backup my PS3.

I used a flash drive to transfer everything I could to my PC.

Resident Evil 5 is copy protected so I cannot backup the game save. I hate this sh*t, why did they copy protect it?

A. Does anyone know if the backup utility saves the RE5 game save?

B. Has anyone tried this?

1. Use the new hard drive to backup my PS3 (I also ordered an external enclosure with USB connection)

2. Copy the backup data from my new HDD to my PC

3. Remove the old HDD

4. Copy the backup data from my PC to the old HDD

5. Install the new HDD in the PS3

6. Connect the old HDD to restore the backup

C. Does it work?

D. Does the backup utility backup game installs?

If so I guess I could uninstall a few games to get me under 8GB, which will fit on my flash drive.

It will save copy protected files. However, copy protection seems to be the new extremely annoying trend that needs to stop. I hate having to back up almost 150gb worth of data because of a measly save file that I could've copied to an SD card

Thanks for the reply. You have backed up RE5 and restored it?
Anyone else?

I don't know about your RE 5 problem but you can use an Ipod to back up more data. Not an Ipod touch though.

I just bought a new internal 500gig HD for my PS3.

I used the BACKUP utility on my ps3 to backup the whole Hard Drive to an external hard drive via usb.

I then fitted the new harddrive and used the BACKUP RESTORE facility to copy all my data back on my machine.

When i copied it warned that it may not copy copywrited material.

But it has fully restored all my resident evil 5 game data!!!

*phew*

Thanks Muddy!
My drive is getting here today
I hope it works for me too.

Well I did the upgrade and it appears my Resident Evil 5 game save was transferred. I need to actually try to load the game and make sure it works, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

I went with a 320gb. Now I have plenty of space. Its been DLing demos for hours.

The swap is ridiculously easy and the best upgrade you can make to your PS3. I purchased the 40GB at Walmart awhile back for $299, so I have a 320GB PS3 for $375!

*EDIT*

The RE5 game save was transferred and loaded successfully. Now if they just let us back it up individually like most other games.
