Forums - Sony - Sony to make mystery announcement on March 31! What's going on?

End of life announcement for the PS2.

It's time for Sony to burn the ships.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

why would we care if it was a ps2 price cut, it should be something ps3/psp related.

I would like to see a price cut for the playstation 2, hopefully more games exspecially jrpgs, and a prolonged life of maybe 2-3 years for the system.

for the PS3 i would also like to see a price cut happen but they've said that they won't for a while. I would also like to see the return of BC but I already own a 60Gb with one. The biggest reason why I bought the PS3 was I heard they were dropping it. Im still waiting for more jrpgs for the system otherwise my money will continue to go to other systems instead of the PS3. Don't get me wrong I love the games that I have for it currently but I need more jrpgs. Maybe they will announce Wild Arms six or the localization of more rpgs.

For the PSP i would also like to see jrpgs and maybe more added functionality to the system through a firmware update.

Systems I own (Games)

Sega: Dreamcast (40) , Saturn (25), Genesis (50), Masters System (10), Game Gear (20)

Sony: PS1 (8), PS2 (60) , PS3 (5), PSP (12)

Atari: 2600 (18) , 7800 (10), Lynx (10)

Which Sony? Sony America or Sony Japan? I think firmware update or price cut.

My guess, price cut of every system they have.

PS2 price drop $30 [Will be $99]
PSP price drop $40 [Will be $129]
PS3 price drop $50 [Will be $349]

Should start the week after. Doesn't the fiscal year end in like April 1st? So yeah, good timing for Sony.

EDIT: What I would really love to see is Sony to price cut PS2 to $99 AND bundle it with Gran Turismo 4 or some kind of first party game. God of War is too violent to be bundled with.

Here's an interesting tidbit:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/966/966706p1.html

The article notes that PEGI and the ESRB have both recently tagged Call of Duty 1 (a PC game from ~2003) as being on the 360 and PS3...  Lets face it, both console have near-identical 3.2 GHz main processors, if you exclude the "rest" of the cores, and graphics chipsets with near-clones on the PC from 2005/2006.  256MB VRAM was mostly unheard of in 2003, or earlier, and 1.7/1.4 GHz Intel/AMD processors (which were much slower, per clock, than the PowerPC cores in the PS360 are) were pretty much the high end in PC-land.  If a company could build a low-level emulator...

Note how Nintendo recently added C64 emulation to their setup -- wouldn't it be something if MS and Sony added older PC emulation to their own consoles? Think of all the games, and how mad Valve will get, with the Steam competition. ;)

Hummmmm,  very interesting indeed :)

A big announcement which happens to be on the day their fiscal year ends. Well, I just have absolutely no idea what it could be.

Isn't April Fools supposed to happen April 01 though, not before like an April fools week!

In Japan, April 1 actually happens a day earlier.

O.o    True!

Sony leaving the gaming market and becoming a software developer.
